  1. file history will not backup to a WD black 5 TB drive

I am trying to backup a drive i use for photos. drive A. I want to back it up to a larger WD black 5 TB hard drive plugged in through a USB on top of my tower. I can see the drive in my files and I can copy files to the drive. File history isn't recognizing my drive or if it does it would flash an error on screen saying " your file history drive has been disconnected".

    :)

Western Digital Announces WD Black 6 TB Hard Drive

WD, a Western Digital company and a world leader in hard drives, today announced the expansion of its award-winning WD Black line of performance hard drives up to 6 TB capacity. Shipping now, the 3.5-inch, 7200 RPM drive is the perfect solution for gamers and professionals in need of high-performance desktop systems and workstations.

WD Black hard drives combine 7200 RPM spin speed, 128 MB cache, dual stage actuator technology, SATA 6 gigabits per second (Gb/s) interface, and an integrated dual processor to deliver ultimate performance in a maximum-capacity drive. The WD Black 6TB is up to 29% faster than the previous WD Black 4TB version in maximum data rate throughput and 10% faster in PCMark Vantage.

"Combining maximum system performance with generous capacity, the expansion of WD Black to 6 TB allows gamers, enthusiasts and creatives to push the boundaries of personalization without compromise," said Cindi Grace, senior vice president of WD storage technology group. "In choosing WD Black hard drives, WD desktop customers get the best possible mix of capacity, performance and reliability to handle intense desktop computing with ease."

WD Black 6 TB hard drives feature the following:
    • Increased Reliability -StableTrac Technology (2 TB and larger models) secures the motor shaft inside of the hard drive to increase reliability and help reduce impact due to system-induced vibrations from other components. By stabilizing the platters inside, the WD Black drive results in more accurate tracking in a particular sector during read and write operations, optimizing performance and reliability.
    • Increased DRAM cache - The Dynamic Cache Technology improves caching algorithms in real time to allocate and optimize cache between reads and writes. This movement of cache for read data helps to reduce congestion and increase overall performance.
    • Efficient dual processing - A dual-core processor offers twice the processing capability as a single-core processor to maximize drive performance for faster read and write speeds.
    • Industry-leading 5-year limited warranty - Compared to standard hard drives, the WD Black drive endures more strenuous and aggressive internal testing over a longer period of time, resulting in it being backed by an industry leading 5-year limited warranty.
    Price and Availability
Available now through select distributors and resellers, WD Black drive is covered by a five-year limited warranty. Manufacturer's Suggested Retail Price (MSRP) for the WD Black 5 TB drive (model # WD5001FZWX) is $264.00 USD and the WD Black 6 TB drive (model # WD6001FZWX) is $294.00 USD.

  3. Format 5 tb WD internal hard drive

Running 5 WD hard drives with Windows 10 Pro. I just upgraded to windows 10 a little over a week ago without a problem for the first time. Boot drive is 500 gb with the second being identical. There are 3 x 5 tb WD red NAS drives installed more recently.
With windows 7, I had absolutely no issues in setting the drives and formatting to enable the use of the full drive size. Access was reasonably quick and no issues with reading and writing to them. Upgraded to windows 10 which went smoothly and seemed to have
no issues with the drives. I attempted to move a 600/700 mb file to the one drive which got to about 75% and then slowed to about a percentage point per 30 minutes. I stopped it and tried again, same result. Tried copying the same file to two other drives,
one being one of the other 5 tb drives and the last being a 3 tb external, without any issues indicating that the file is fine. I then removed all other data from the drive believing I could identify and correct the issues by removing the partition, reset
it and then formatting the drive. Windows begins but returns with a message that formatting was unsuccessful. Checked using disk manager which shows the drive to be fine but still unable to format. Rebooted with the same result. So, I believe windows 10 is
the root of the issue. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

  4. file history will not backup to a WD black 5 TB drive

Unable to re-engage File History backup. Error: Reselect your File History drive -We found errors in your File History settings. Tap or click to reselect your drive.

Unable to re-engage File History backup. Recently (within the last few weeks), begin getting error messages, and now I see the last backup is from January 3, 2019. Using File History on a laptop running the latest release of Windows 10 (i.e. I do not
stop Microsoft from installing Windows Updates on Microsoft's schedule). Of course, because it is a laptop, I have to disconnect the external drives when I take my laptop away from my office. I shutdown the computer prior to disconnecting the drives, and
they appear to reconnect, with the same drive letter designations when I return to the office.

First error message / dialogue box:
    File History
Reselect your File History drive -We found errors in your File History settings. Tap or click to reselect your drive.

I proceed to click, bringing up the next window

A list of all the external hard drives connected to my laptop:
    (G) Toshiba 1.5TB Black - an external hard drive in use with a cloud backup program, which will also make a local backup if a hard drive it attached.
1.00 TB free of 1.36 TB
    (I) WD My Passport 4.0TB Black (I) - a 4TB drive divided into two (2) 2TB partitions. This drive, I, is the one on which my File History backup exists
0.98 TB free of 1.81 TB
    (H) WD My Passport 4.0TB Black (H) - second 2TB partition. Using Western Digital WD Backup to backup to this portion
6.85 GB free of 1.81 TB
    (D) Removable Disk - a Micro SD Card inserted into the designated port on my laptop.
O bytes free of 119 GB

I choose WD My Passport 4.0TB Black (I)

Next I am prompted to "Select an existing backup"
There is only one backup from which to choose
    User name (mine)
Computer name (name of my laptop)
Last backup date 1/3/2019 11.02 PM
I click on this entry and then click the OK at the bottom of the window

    Next dialogue box pops up:
Do you want to use this drive for File History again?
This drive doesn't have your most recent file. To restore those files you will need to select the drive you last used.
Of note is that some of the alpha characters in this dialogue box are not regular letter characters. There is a lower case a with a accent, another strange character, the TM (trademark) in superscript. These characters appear twice in the dialogue box.
    Otherwise the message is readable.

    I choose Yes

This brings me back to the beginning, meaning full cycle to the first error message:
Reselect your File History drive -We found errors in your File History settings. Tap or click to reselect your drive.

I took a look at the Event Viewer and this was the message:
Unable to start a backup cycle for configuration C:\Users\(Username)\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\FileHistory\Configuration\Config

    Thank you.
