Windows 10: file history will not copy to external hard drive

new desktop computer, formatted external hard drive, after set up of file history to copy libraries, etc.... nothing copied, Error 204 with message "unusual condition was encountered during finalization of a backup cycle for configuration."

File History does not recognize external hard drive since reformat

File History stopped backing up at some point (was a single file name too long for it?). I reformatted my external hard disk, a WD My Book. Now File History will not back up to it, despite it showing up in a list of possible external drives to back up to. I've tried using a free trial version of Backblaze too but it simply isn't backing up. Any suggestions?

 

Windows 10 File History Backup Files New Larger External Hard Drive

My 1TB external hard drive is almost full. I want to keep all my previous file history files rather than delete older versions.

How do I copy the file history files from this older 1TB external hard drive to a new 6TB external hard drive?

I'd then like to use the new 6TB external hard drive as the back up for file history.

We suggest that you try the troubleshooting steps below:

• Open your External Hard Drive file in File Explorer.
• Type the name of the file you want to search on the search box and click Enter.

The file will show up in Search Results and you will be able to move it to the correct folder.
