Windows 10: File icon showing inside a plain white icon

After I reset the default programs in the default apps tab in settings to Microsoft's recommended defaults I noticed that .png or .jpg files were showing the photos app icon inside a plain white icon like a document, but white. Though before that the photos app was also set as the default one for pictures etc. How do i fix this? Here's a little snip of the icon.

I'm having the same issue. I installed Office 365 everything worked fine, when I installed Project Professional 2016; the icon on the DOCX file changed to white plain icon. I have tried everything I could find to resolve nothing works.

Doesn't seem Microsoft is doing much to resolve this since this seems to have been going on for so time now.

I understand your concern and suggest you to Unlink OneDrive and run OneDrive setup
again and check. Here is the steps:

• 
  Right-click the white OneDrive cloud icon in the notification area, at the far right of the taskbar.
  
  
  
  (You might need to click the Show hidden icons arrow next to the notification area to see the
  OneDrive icon.)
  
• 
  Click Settings, and then click Unlink.
  
• 
  Follow the steps in the Welcome to OneDrive wizard to set up OneDrive.

my icons are just plain white!


so, all of my icons on my taskbar, aside from the native microsoft programs,(outlook, edge, control panel, etc) are just plain white and ugly..
any way to make them colorful like their icon actually should be, and was on my win 7 machine?

I'm sure there is a way, I just cant figure it out!
