Windows 10: File Quarantined When Group Policy Turn Off Routine Remediation Enabled

While copying a file from USB flash drive to HDD, I receive error file has a virus, with no prompt for action. Defender then moves the file to quarantine. I have had group policy for turn off routine remediation enabled for over a week. It is local group policy, stand-alone Windows 10 instance 21h1 19043.1415.Why did this happen? How can I keep this from happening? I want Defender AV to PROMPT me what to do.

Thanks for that 'nugget', running it told me that a couple of PUPs from some recent testing I did were still in quarantine, despite the Windows Security app assuring me there was nothing held in quarantine. I restored them then permanently deleted them. BTW, you need to use a Command prompt (Admin) in order to run that command.


Do you have Pro? If so, there is a group Policy that can do that. Open gpedit and look in Administrative templates > Windows components > Windows Defender Antivirus. When enabled the 'Turn off routine remediation' policy will make Defender prompt the user with a choice of actions.

It's not clear what registry settings this policy changes (or whether they would work in Home) perhaps @Brink knows.

 

GROUP POLICIES IN WINDOWS 10

You can change Group Policies by opening Group Policy Editor first. You can open it by following these steps:

• Log in an administrator account. If you are already logged in as an administrator, proceed to step 2.
  
• Press Windows + R to open Run.
• Type gpedit.msc and press Enter.
  

After opening Group Policy Editor, you can now make the necessary changes that you want.

Group Policy

After doing the enable to those 3-items indicated for Group Policy and doing a reboot.
I had nothing in any files other than the folder without any files contained inside them
When back to the Group Policy and changed them back to being Not Configured.

Just rebooted and things appear to be back as they were, but not as pictures but as icons

Thank all for your inputs to solve this, but I am back to square one.

Any other ideas would be appreciated

After again trying the above suggestions and thanking you all for one of them did solve the problem~
