Windows 10: File Search Wonky After Windows 11 Update

Hi All, After downloading the Windows 11 update, my file explorer has become much less functional. Some previous update maybe a few years had already limited the File Explorer search; however, I found a workaround by searching through Dropbox folder, where most of my files are anyway, and this worked for a while. With the new update to 11, though, this is no longer working either. I typically use the file explorer to determine where a snippet of text appears in my files. Let's say I want to locate a file in which I used a Henry David Thoreau quote, but all I remember of the quote was that it

To turn off windows updates in windows 7 follow these steps:

Click the start button, in the search box type in 'windows updates', click on 'windows update'
in the search results list, in the left side of the windows update window click 'change settings'
then in the option bar select 'Never check for updates'.

 

Search Content of MHT files

Most probably, this is a problem with the search and indexing of your Windows 10 computer. For us to provide the best resolution possible, we would like to clarify the following:

• Are you trying to search the content of MHT files using Cortana?
• Have you tried searching it using the File Explorer?
• Are you using a third-party app to search for the content of MHT files?

As an initial troubleshooting step, we suggest that you run the troubleshooter for search and indexing. To run the Search and Indexing troubleshooter, follow these steps:

• Click the Start button and select the Settings
  icon.
• Choose Update & Security from the list.
• Click Troubleshoot in the left pane of the window.
• Under Find and fix other problems.
• Select Search and Indexing and click Run the troubleshooter.

FIXED!! Windows 7 sp1 never ends searching for updates

Pros:

• No need for a script, easy to apply manually
  
• Much smaller download, seems that KB3020369 is not required, only SP1 is needed

Cons:

• Windows Update Client downloaded by the script is newer (June 2016 version is included in KB3172605 instead of March 2016)
• You will still need to download/install hundreds of updates afterwards, most of them are already included in KB3125574 and installed by the script
