Windows 10: File sharing only works from desktop to laptop, not the other way

Specs: Windows 10, latest non-beat update.Goal: sharing files from laptop to desktop, essentially having the laptop act as a server. Specifcally sharing the entire C: drive.Solution: Windows file sharing over wifiProblem:Hi.I have enable file sharing and discovery on my desktop and laptop on the same router. Desktop and Laptop lose sharing

The WiFi driver was up to date. The Bluetooth driver was 12.0.1.720, so I did update it to the newest 12.0.1.1105. The bluetooth driver installed without problem.

As fully discussed below, my two computers, a laptop and a desktop, connect by a Windows network for file and printer sharing. Often the two computers are not shown as being connected by the network in file explorer. But, by entering the numeric address of the other computer into the file explorer search field, either will connect with the other. And also, I discovered, I can enter the name of the other computer (as if one computer were named DESKTOP and the other LAPTOP). So it seems that all the network functionality is actually working except for File Explorer actually listing the names of the connected computer in its displays.

Do you have a handy site I can read regarding file sharing across my home network?

I have a laptop for work that is a part of a different workgroup.

I have 2 desktop computers on the same workgroup. They all have different user names and accounts.

One Desktop (of the 2) is running xp pro, and the other xp home.

I want to be able to file share documents without opening them up to Everyone, and that seems to be the only way I can gain access to the files.

I wanted to make it so that you would need to provide a user name and password that matched the computer you were trying to access the files’ user account. At work, that is what happens when I try to access a network drive because my laptop’s user name is different then what they gave me to access the network. A dialog box appears, I put in my network name and I’m in.

Can't share files on desktop pc with laptop

Add "everyone" to the list of permissions enables running stuff from my desktop on my laptop. Still, this is an open gate' open to any intruder. I'm looking for a way to a much narrower door, to a specific user who is listed on my laptop.
Is there way to do it?
