Windows 10: File sharing only works with an alias email account

This is my setup that is causing me to tear my hair out, because I can’t get file sharing to work properly:New W11 laptop with two Microsoft accounts logged in using Hello PIN – me admin and my wife standard, with wifi connection to home LAN.Same accounts logged in using Hello PIN on W11 home PC, with ethernet connection to the same LAN.Both devices set up for Private sharing with discovery and file/printer sharing turned on.Shared folders on PC set to share with both accounts and user folders on PC set to share with respective user accounts.After setup, my wife’s standard account on lapto

Hosts File Alias not working with File Share


I can set an alias in the hosts file on a win7 machine and access it just fine but doing the same in Win10 prompts for creds that never work even when entered correctly.
What did win10 change?

hosts file entry:
127.0.0.1 hostname alias

\\ip - works fine
\\hostname -works fine
\\alias - Prompts for creds and creds don't work

I have gone to the extent of fully disabling UAC from reg, same outcome. Network and file sharing is set to password access and not homegroup. Simple file sharing is off.

Something to note. I always disable ipv6 form the adapter but when I ping my hostname it shows the ipv6 loopback. Why is that?
When I ping the alias it returns 127.0.0.1 ipv4 loopback that was entered in the hostname.

Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Microsoft account email alias problem

i changed the alias and removed the default one, so now i have only the new one in the list...the default one that was their is gone

i did not know that removing the default alias would mean i would lose my original email address, because now my original email adress isnt working.

and on top of that, my new alias or should i say new email address isint recieving emails... over 20 years of usuing the same email address and its gone because i thought a alias was just a display name.
