Change in folder size after enabling Bitlocker

    Hi,

Thank you for writing to Microsoft Community Forums.

We understand you concern related to the size of the folder displayed. Try these steps to narrow down the issue:

    1. Disable bitlocker
and then check the folder size.
    2. We would also suggest you to open the folder and select all files and see the size of the contents.

Let us know if the size of the contents matches the folder size. If you see a difference, then the folder might be showing incorrect size.

Kindly reply us with the requested information to assist you better.

    Awaiting for your response.

JPG files from phone show incorrect file size (18GB) although size on disk shows (4KB).

In December I transferred photos on two occasions from my android phone to my Surface laptop and the files will not open. It says an unknown error has occurred. The JPG files from the phone show incorrect file size (18GB) although size on disk shows a
reasonable size (4KB). I can open other pictures that I have transferred from my phone as well as other pictures from other sources. I have tried to open in photos, paint and VLC media player. I cannot move them since the computer thinks they are giant and
it says there is not enough space when I try to copy them. I am up to date on windows 10 updates.

File Size on Disk shows a big fake size and i cannot open it

Storage showing as double the actual SSD size

Running Windows 10 Home 20H2 (Build 19042.964) on an AMD based Windows Surface Laptop 4 with 512GB SSD.

Even though it has a 512GB SDD as confirmed by both disk management and file explorer, settings -> system -> Storage reports the size as 951GB! I have searched but struggling to discover how to get it to report the real size.

Per the image below it shows
    • 553GB used - bigger than the size of the SDD
      519GB in system & reserved

System and reserved breaks down per this screenshot

Have tried various options including disk cleanup, SFC and DSIM to get it to report the correct size but to no avail. Any suggestions on how to correct this much appreciated?
