Windows 10: File system error -1073741818. cant open programs, taskmanager disappears

So ive only very recently the last few hours noticed this, but i keep getting this error when trying to open programs. My start menu is also noticeably slower and whenever i open task manager it just disappears straight away.


Im on windows 10, just did a bunch of windows updates hoping that might fix it but nothing so far. Done a couple of scans with malwarebytes + NOD32 but they come back with nothing.


I tried to do a repair with my windows 10 CD but i cant even run that as the error comes up.

Any suggestions welcome, thanks.



Edit; okay so it seems anything that it has to ask me permission to open doesnt work. I also cant run cmd checks as i need to run them as admin and it doesnt seem to like that.

What is "Program" in taskmanager

Exactly, er was no program.exe and the "open file location" was greyed out.
I was able to remove it with "Autoruns".
After that I scanned with malwarebytes, no big problems found.

I also have a "program" on my startup list but there's no program.exe or program anything on my drive and the "Open file location" option is grayed out.

I suppose it's just a descriptor. My best guess is that a uninstalled program didn't remove its entry from the startup list and Windows still tries to load it but since there's no actual file Windows can't show its metadata.

Okay, so every time I try to download or open some windows apps (like task manager) I keep getting

C:\WINDOWS\system32\taskmgr.exe

File system error (-1073741818)

PLEASE HELP
