Windows 10: file system error (-2147219196)

Get the file system error (-2147219196 when trying to open photos. I know exactly when it happened but don’t know how to fix or repair. I was viewing photos, when I received an email in Windows 10 Mail. I opened mail which contained a PDF attachment. The PDF file was opened in Microsoft Edge PDF viewer. Printed the PDF file and immediately went back to photos. The first photo I tried to open, the file system error occured, getting ever since. Help!

When I try to open pictures, I get this error

File System error (-2147219196)

Also Calculator will not open

 

File System Error (-2147219196) - Can't open photos and calculator.

I can't open any of my photos nor can I open my calculator. The message I receive is "File System Error (-2147219196)"

After recent updates desktop shortcuts do not open programs and apps. Error Code:2147219196 also MS Solitaire Collection and associated shortcut is missing

 

Anyone finding a solution? I'm having the same problem. Never had this happen before.

 

Same here, another W10 update stuff up. Why arent Microsoft fixing the problem, seems its been around since May.

 

I've been looking at every thread possible. I've tried a multitude of the suggestions, but this is what worked for me: Apparently, the permissions to the WindowsApps folder (a hidden folder) got screwed up for the Users group.


File Explorer - Show Hidden Folders - Go to Program Files\WindowsApps - Right Click Select Properties - Select Security Tab - Select Advanced - Change the owner to Your Administrative Account Name - Once you have ownership access, delete the Users principal reference and it's associated permissions - Re-Add the Users group to have Read & Execute, List Folder Contents, & Read - Change the owner back to TrustedInstaller. At each point allow permissions to propagate to subfolders and files, etc.

I hope I explained it well enough (from memory). This is my recollection of what I did and what seemed to work for me. I hope that it works for you.

Caveat: I did uninstall the Photos app and reinstall it several times in advance of the above solution. That may or may not have had an impact on my ability to solve the problem using the solution above. So, one may need to do that if the above doesn't solve the problem outright.
