Windows 10: file xfer from Windows laptop to NAS VIA an intermediate VM !!! FAST

Hi Network GURUS

Any idea why for 20GB of video transfer from a Windows laptop (OS on SSD) to my NAS (because of Networking problems with the latest version of Windows Fast ring release) I had to logon to a Windows QEMU/VM running on the NAS to transfer the files successfully and was getting around 110 MB/s (yes MB/s not Mib/s) for the xfer --- over Wifi too !!

so from the Windows VM -- access the laptop and then send the data to the HOST NAS (couldn't use the laptop directly as it can't see the NAS) --- networking issues with the fast release build although Windows-->Windows is no problem.

Normally I've had from Windows networking when it IS working typical speeds from Windows Native machine to NAS of only around 30 MB/s.

The wizardry of Windows Networking !!!! -- never thought using an Intermediate VM in the middle would speed things up around 3 - 4 times !!!

Any ideas on this one or is it again a bit of "Gandalf the Wizard" !!!!

seems bonkers to me to have to do it like this but I really think Windows Networking IS basically Bonkers anyway -- always random whether it works or not !"

FAST - Laptop to PC

Can FAST (File and Settings Transfer Wizard) be used to migrate files from a Laptop to a PC? I have this friend who needs his E-mail, Client database, etc. moved from his Laptop to a PC. Can someone tell me how easy this is to do with FAST and what the steps I should take to perform this procedure? Thanks.

If FAST can't be used can someone recommend a free Transfer Wizard? I guess I could manually do it, but I don't want to mess up and have him blaming me for god know how long.

 

Win 10 Build 10547 no longer finds NAS on network

I have a small network of Windows machines (virtual and physical).

The VM on which I try out the fast ring builds can no longer see my NAS after upgrading to 10547.

One of my Physical machines exhibits the same, no NAS.

I have rolled back my VM to 10532 and it can see the NAS and then re-upgraded to 10547 and it then cannot see the NAS.

All my other machines Win7 AND Win10 not on fast ring can see the NAS.

OKAY... I get the laptop thru all the updates by using the troubleshooter. Now I still cannot see my NAS in file explorer BUT there is one file listed in quick access that is on the NAS. If I open file location I can see everything on the NAS (WOOHOO)
but if I close file explorer and reopen it the NAS does not appear(?).

I am sure there is a small tweak that needs to be made but at least if I don't loose the quick access I will be able to access my files.
