Windows 10: FileHistory Cleanup Could ot clean up File History data SOLUTION!

Hello all,I have been looking for an answer to this issue... for a long time. And I believe I have found the solution to this issue. I've been on numerous sites that all refer you to use other backup software.Here's the issue: When you look at your files in PowerShell doing a "dir" command on them, you'll see something like this. Directory: D:\FileHistory\XXX\XXXX\Data\C\Users\XXXX\Documents dir Out* Mode LastWriteTime Length Name

File History

I just set up File History to use a new external hard drive.

Unfortunately it set up five copies of my computer in the FileHistory folder.

• FileHistory/username/computername
• FileHistory/username/computername (2)
• FileHistory/username/computername (3)
• FileHistory/username/computername (4)
• FileHistory/username/computername (5)

On top of this problem, File History has not backed up any Data at all. It has only created some files in the folder FileHistory/username/computername (5)/Configuration.

Any idea how I can fix this problem?

 

File History Restore Not Working

My apologies for my not explaining my problem clearly.

File History would always list my external drive. It would not list the File History backup subfolder, "Computer Name", which contained my backup.

I completed the 5 steps you recommended, and in step (4), using Windows Explorer, I opted to change the name to "File History.old" instead of deleting it. Had I deleted it, all my backup files that I want to reload onto drive C would have been gone.

When I look at the external backup drive in Windows Explorer it now shows 4 folders, $RECYCLE.BIN, FileHistory, FileHistory.old and System Volume Information. Bottom line, FileHistory contains only the backed up data currently on Drive C as a result of step
5, while FileHistory.old contains the data I wish to reload.

Now when I go to Control Panel/File History/Select drive, and select the external backup drive, only the subfolder contained in FileHistory shows up. The subfolder contained in FileHistory.old, which contains the data I wish to restore, is still not listed.
When I select "Restore personal files" it only shows folders associated with FileHistory.

Thanks for your attention and help, but I am now resigned to copying and pasting the files that I need to restore. I totally yield to the higher power that is Microsoft.

File History Cleanup

File History Cleanup not working, whatever version of files and folders age selected, it pops up: "Could not clean up File History data, Element not found."

I have the Feature update to Windows 10, version 2004. How to make the File History Cleanup work? Please advise.
