Hello Here's my issue : I have a backup drive containing files from my old Windows 10 computer that were saved using FileHistory. Now that I've changed computers and have a new drive and Windows 11 install, I tried to get the files back to my computer but the FileHistory tool in Windows 11 is sending me in an error loop. Basically I can't recover the files without the ugly date and hour at the end of it 1st picture. When I go and try to execute a save, it tells me that the drive has a problem 4th picture and when I click on it it brings up a menu to reselect my drive. When I reselect it a

FileHistory on external hard drive, use FileHistory to copy to new laptop Win10?

My Windows 10 laptop crashed. Luckily, I kept FileHistory current to an external hard drive.

I bought a new Windows 10 laptop. Can I use FileHistory on the new machine to restore my files from the external hard drive?

File History Restore Not Working

My apologies for my not explaining my problem clearly.

File History would always list my external drive. It would not list the File History backup subfolder, "Computer Name", which contained my backup.

I completed the 5 steps you recommended, and in step (4), using Windows Explorer, I opted to change the name to "File History.old" instead of deleting it. Had I deleted it, all my backup files that I want to reload onto drive C would have been gone.

When I look at the external backup drive in Windows Explorer it now shows 4 folders, $RECYCLE.BIN, FileHistory, FileHistory.old and System Volume Information. Bottom line, FileHistory contains only the backed up data currently on Drive C as a result of step
5, while FileHistory.old contains the data I wish to reload.

Now when I go to Control Panel/File History/Select drive, and select the external backup drive, only the subfolder contained in FileHistory shows up. The subfolder contained in FileHistory.old, which contains the data I wish to restore, is still not listed.
When I select "Restore personal files" it only shows folders associated with FileHistory.

Thanks for your attention and help, but I am now resigned to copying and pasting the files that I need to restore. I totally yield to the higher power that is Microsoft.

FileHistory - external HardDrives

I try to use FileHistory to backup my files - photos.

File History is set to external 3T HD

As Back up folders I selected entire internal separate HD (Pictures(H H:\)

Also all my personal files such as Documents etc are added to back up folders (default setting)

I run it with no problem however:

When I try "restore files from a current backup" I do not see my H drive. I can see all personal folders but nowhere is my H drive.

When I try "to restore to original location" - with no selection of any folder - and got "Interrupted Action - There is not enough space ……."

Can you help me to solve this problem.

My H drive is 1T
