Windows 10: Files Automatically Disappear Forever

On multiple occasions all files older than 30 days that are stored in a specific folder on my hard drive have been deleted when I shut down my computer. These files do not show up in the Recycle Bin so they're unrecoverable. This doesn't happen with other folders. Fortunately, I had backed these up the files on an external drive but having to replace them eery time is a waste of my time. This has been going on for several months with no obvious change to the folder, computer, file structure, etc.. Of course, I could store these in the cloud but I'm not always able to a

File History does not backup automatically

Thank you for writing us back.

I would suggest you to go through the below steps:

• 
  Press Windows key+I.
  
• 
  Click on Update and security.
  
• 
  On the left pane, click on backup and select on under automatically back up my files.
  
• 
  Click on more option under on button.
  
• 
  Select every hour (default) under back up my files.
  
• 
  Select forever (default) under keep my files.

A simple solution but one that works in most circumstances!

1. Click Start, click Run, type services.msc, and then click OK.

2. In the list of services, right-click Automatic Updates, and then click Properties.

3. In the Startup type list, click Automatic, and then click Apply.

4. If Service status is set to Stopped, click Start, and then click OK.

5. Right-click Background Intelligent Transfer Service, and then click Properties.

6. In the Startup type list, click Manual, and then click Apply.

7. If Service status is set to Stopped, click Start, and then click OK.
