Windows 10: Files don't highlight to be selected, column width bar is now invisible; Using Windows 10 1803

All of a sudden, files inside of my folders no longer highlight when I click on them. I can only either open a file or rename it. I can't "select" fles so I, therefore, can't select several in a row.


Also, the bar that can be selected at the top of a folder to move columns either right or left is now invisible. I have to move my mouse at the top of the folder and wait until the <- -> appears to change the column widths.


I have no idea how this happened, what settings I could have changed to make this happen, but I'd like to get these options back.

I went through all of the above steps, but sadly this doesn't work when viewing folders in *list* view. Any idea how to adjust the column widths there?

Up until a couple of months ago the column widths were always simply equal to the longest name in the column or the longest name in the folder. Now there is a couple of extra centimetres in there for no discernible reason.

since the last big update, when selected. shorter named files are now highlighted beyond the length of the file, if a file in it's column is longer! Why did microsoft do this? I work with multiply files in many columns and now they all have the same ''highlight'
width in accordance with the longest file, making it almost impossible to work quickly when hovering and trying to select a shorter named file. How can I fix this so the file is highlighted according to the the width of the file name?????

You can manually adjust the widths for each by placing your mouse cursor on the line separating each detail and you will see a > I or + <, then hold down left mouse button and slide left or right.
