Windows 10: Files getting Hidden automatically

My laptop has been acting weird lately, I reset it a while ago and did some cloning of my startup to my SSD, and everything was working file. until I had a new drive named ESP which I don't have access to despite being the admin. Last night I noticed a lot of my files in downloads went hidden and my user files in path C:\users\. I couldn't find my name too under this path.I installed VS code and other extensions like Python 3 , I'm not sure if that's the reason, but that is the only thing I noticed new after lot of files got hidden.What is the reason behind it ? Am I having a virus or a malwar

Files Added to Hidden Folder Are Not Automatically Hidden

Hello,

I have a situation where files that are newly added to a hidden folder (which is temporarily unhidden so I can access it) do not inherit the hidden property of the folder. In other words, the files are not automatically hidden. These files still show up in the Quick Access Recent Files list when I open an Explorer window which defeats the purpose of hiding the folder. When I initially hid the folder I did enable the option to apply the hidden status to all files within the folder, not just the folder itself, but this setting doesn't seem to "stick" for future file additions. I have to go into the properties of each file and check the Hidden checkbox. Is this by design or is this a bug? I can't think of a scenario where you would not want files added to a hidden folder to be hidden. What's the point of adding them to a hidden folder in the first place, then? Is there setting I can change so that files added to the hidden folder in the future automatically inherit the hidden status of the folder? I'm running Windows 11 Pro 21H2.

Hidden files not behaving properly

Sorry for the delay in responding; I had to deal with some other things along the way!

I ran Step 5 and got this:



Then I restarted Windows. When I got back into my folder, it looked the same as before and the hidden file was still invisible but this time, when I went into Folder Options, the "don't show hidden files, folders and drives" radio button was selected. I simply clicked the "show hidden files, folders and drives" radio button, clicked on Apply and my hidden file finally reappeared!

I'm still curious about why this functionality broke suddenly but I've got lots of other things on my plate so I think I'll get back to them.

All hidden files turned Un-hidden

Hi,

Thank you for posting in Microsoft Community and being part of Windows 10.

I suggest you to re-add them to the hidden items list and check.

Steps:

• Right click on the folders to hide, select Properties.
• Go to General tab, under Attributes check mark the option
  Hidden.
• Click on Apply and on Ok.

I suggest you not to use any third party anti-virus software. Try to use Windows Defender.
