Windows 10: Files keep getting corrupted on a particular hard disk partition?

I got a new laptop about two weeks ago, and I created a partition on the hard drive. Since then, whatever programs I install on that drive, their files keep getting corrupted and I don't know the reason. I tried everything from formatting the partition to deleting and recreating the partition but the problem still keeps happening. Yesterday for instance, I watched videos on VLC, and today, when I turned on my new laptop, VLC cannot run because it is suddenly missing some file. I tried running Steam the gaming store and it was working fine just yesterday, now windows says that this app can't

W7 Hard drive partition issue

to get rid of that 100 meg windows partition that setup creates for you on a new install on a blank hdd:

- press shift+f10 when on the partition management screen in setup <-- this opens a command prompt
- diskpart <-- start the windows command line partition management tool
- list disk <--- list the installed hdds in this computer for the next step
- select disk 0 <- might have to replace 0 with the number of the correct disk
- clean <-- this will erase all data on the disk you selected one step up- dont use the wrong disk!
- create partition primary <- creates a primary partition taking up all space on the drive, adjust the command if necessary
- exit, exit to exit diskpart and the command prompt
- click refresh in partition manager and select your newly created partition and install to that

This can happen if the Hard-disk drivers are not up-to date. I would suggest you to update the hard disk drivers first. To update the drivers, please follow the steps mentioned below:

1. Open Device manager.
   
2. Then Expand “Disk drives”.
   
3. Then Right click on the Hard-disk listed under this category.
   
4. Then click on Update drivers.
   
5. Alternatively you can also try to update the drivers from manufacturer’s website.
   

Once the hard-disk drivers are updated, you will need to allocate the last partition (it is not allocated according to the screenshot) and you will be able to view the partition.



Also note that sometimes the hard disk partitions/drives might be hidden in This PC or My Computer window due to a Registry key. If a DWORD with the name NoViewOnDrive or NoDrives is present under following key in Registry Editor:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Current Version\Policies\Explorer

Delete the DWORD and your drives will become visible in My Computer window.

Hard disk partitioning

Step 1: Connect the external drive and make sure it is powered on.

Step 2: press Windows key + X then click Disk Management

Step 3: You will see the external drive listed in Disk Managment.

Right click each partition, starting from the extreme right, then click Delete.

You should only see one unallocated drive

After all are deleted, right click it then click Format

This will start a wizard

Choose NTFS for the file system then label it then click Next to begin the format.
