Windows 10: files older than my computer

so I was absently searching through my files, just really looking out of boredom, when I found "Install.exe", made by Microsoft Corporation. this isn't too weird by itself, if it weren't for the fact that the file predates both my computer and windows 10 the file is from 2011. is this normal? should I be concerned about the file? also, I have never transferred from another drive where I don't know what is on it and that is old enough to even contain files from 2011.

transfer files between computers on a home network

I don't know why this is so hard to do but I would like to transfer files between a desktop PC running windows 10 pro and a laptop running windows 10 home. I would like to transfer files in both directions. Both computers are on the same home network and are connected wirelessly.

Could some one provide either specific step by step instructions on how to do this (I googled and found a countless list of instructions that don't work)

or a link to a reference.

I don't know if this is possible but it would be nice to see the computer sending the desired file in the explorer file manager of the computer receiving the desired file and then under the computer see a list
of shared files and folders.

Again, this seems like such a reasonable way of sharing files and folders. Shouldn't there be a simple way to do this?

 

Computers Vanished From File Explorer But Network Still Works

I agree with @Try3. I have tried every suggested method to fix Windows networking suggested on these forums. All at best only worked for a short time. The only things that helped was:

1. Batch file I suggested in an earlier post
2. Creating shortcuts to computers on my home network

Note these two things are not fixes but workaround. However, at least they help and have never failed.

I have shortcuts set up for eight computers on my home network. I have created a folder on my desktop called My Network to hold the shortcuts. They have a mix of the following operating systems:

• Windows 10 - 4
• Windows 7 - 3
• Windows XP - 1

I suggest you to install the program in Compatibility mode by following the steps below and check if the issue is resolved.



Compatibility mode runs the program in the current version of Windows using the settings from previous version of Windows.



Step 1: Install the device drivers manually in
Compatibility mode.
