Windows 10: Files on a usb drive including some .jpg and .png files causing File Explorer to freeze

I have several files on a usb drive including some .jpg and .png files, some of these .jpg and .png files are not loading when opening the usb in File Explorer and the program seems to attempt to load them but is unable to thus causing it to get stuck in loading, attempts to exit the program cause it to come up with a Not Responding message. I have run a Windows Diagnostic and repair on the usb drive and this hasn't solved the issue. Some .jpg and .png do load so it seems to be relegated to certain files, attempts to delete the offending files have been unsuccessful so far.

Protecting files on a USB stick?

Even if you restrict access to read only, they can still copy the program. Read access is all copy needs.

My suggestion for simplicity is to create a small file on the drive and mark it hidden as well as marking it a system file, so even if they turn hidden files on the file won't show up. Put this file in a separate folder that is also marked as system, name the folder something random and windows important sounding. So even if they do find it, they won't know what it is and should ignore it. Then make the main program check for the file on execution and exit if the file isn't on the flash drive.

This should fool 90% of people unless they are pretty computer literate.

 

Stored files in Hard Drive

You can use Windows search. Just search for *.* on a desired drive. When list is done just arrange them by size LOL.

You can do it via command line as well and make an output text file showing files and their sizes (but without arrangement)

 

USB Drive Continually Corrupting Files

Hi Guys,

I was wondering if anyone could help with something? I'm using a 32gb mushkin nano usb drive in my laptop as additional storage for my paltry SSD, but I've noticed that it's been corrupting my files.

I've tested the drive with a utility called chkflsh and it reports the usb is fine and I have scanned for viruses and come up with nothing.

This is extremely annoying as I'm using BTSync to backup my drive with my other home/work computers and so this is causing the files across all computers to become corrupt.

I've also run memtest to check my ram, as I thought that might be causing the issues and it's come up with nothing.

Does anyone have any ideas what happening?
