Windows 10: Files on my Desktop are giving me an error message when I try to open them.

I am having problems opening files in various locations. This just stopped working this morning. There are files on my desktop text files, .txt and when I click on them, they won't open. I get the following error message:I have an external hard drive that I did a backup to a while ago using the Windows 7 Backup/Restore in Control Panel. I think I did it in March. I created a backup and a System Image. So if necessary, I can use the System Image to recover my system, I think. I did a right-click this morning and created a new .txt document on my desktop. I can see it there, but when

opening .dds files with gimp

Simply, HOW? I got the DDS plugin but the POS wont open DDS files still. Can someone give me a step-by-step rundown of how to install the DDS plugin for gimp so I know if I'm missing something?

 

windows 10 deleted my desktop files

Step 1 - I upgraded to Win 10 and lost all my files on Desktop.

Step 2 - Found the files in Network - USers- Desktop

copied all files again to desktop.

Step 3- Restarted my machine again and lost desktop files again.

Step 4 - As suggested did the following as listed below but dont find my files.

• Press “Windows + E”, open This PC/Computer
• Open Local Disc C, open Windows.old
• Click on Users, select your User name
• Go to desktop folder

Cant find my files. Why is Win 10 deleted files again and again from Desktop ?.
