  1. Files & personalization have been sort of wiped.

When I logged on this morning, it was to find that all of my files had been removed, customizations and cookies had been erased down to the wallpaper. Onedrive was signed out. A little more digging and it seems that all of my applications are still on the computer and that I can access the files by going to: C:\Users\liz. The odd part is that I am signed into liz but going to file explorer or onedrive directly just shows a blank folder. Even my onedrive files have been saved there.

    In case it's needed:
    • I run Windows 10, version 20H2.
    • There was a windows update last night, which may have been the issue - that being said, I tried uninstalling and it did not fix it. I then tried re-installing and it still has no changes.
    • Computer is a Dell Optiplex 3010

    :)

  2. sorting jpg files

    Hi

Thank you for writing to Microsoft Community Forums.

Could you let us know, are you trying to sort in files in Explorer or Photos app?

If you are sorting in explorer, follow the steps mentioned below.

    1. Open the folder in which files are stored.
    2. Right click on empty space of window.
    3. Select Sort by and click on
      Type
      .

If you are trying to sort in Photos app by extension, we would suggest you to provide your feedback in
Send feedback to Microsoft with the Feedback Hub app
as there is no option available to sort by extension in the app. However you can sort by Modified, Newest, Oldest, and Alphabetical.

If you want to look only for the files with .jpg extension in photos app, you may type
    *.jpg in the search bar.

    Hope it helps.

Let us know if you got the help you needed by clicking Yes or No.

    Sorting with File Explorer.

I tried the method that was complicated (3rd option) but fell over in second step as I could not find any "apply to folder button"'.

However, the simple put *.* in search bar, then sort results windows by date does the trick. It is slightly cumbersome as I have to do that each time I am selecting files (to upload to sharepoint) but a lot less hassle than I was having to scroll up and down between sorted file block and sorted folder block.

    Many thanks.

    M.

    wipe personal data

I upgraded my HP desktop to windows 10 from windows 7. I now wish to give it to a charity but need to wipe my personal data. I have tried going through settings - recovery - reset but the computer was unable to make any changes. Initially it seemed to
be working but then when the computer restarted all my files were still there. I tried again but this time got a message saying the computer could not make the requested changes - any suggestions?
