Windows 10: Finally solved the stuck at 45% KB3189866 problem

I wasted an hour on the phone to Windows tech support. The guy tried to help me but denied any knowledge of this issue. I finally did some digging online and found these links. I was able to run it on Google Chrome. Once you have downloaded the MSU file, click on it once and follow instructions. The installation takes a couple of minutes to get going. Good luck.

Yes, manual install is the solution suggested over the web. Apparently there's some problem with this particular package.

Good links, but there's a minor problem if you use IE11 to open them. 1607's IE11 mis-identifies itself to some sites (Update Catalog included). If you don't see the 'Download' button, open the links in any other browser - Edge will work fine.

 

Edit: Didn't notice the x64 bit link. Might want to label the 32 bit download. I clicked the wrong link.

 

Had same issue with MS 'Support'. I think I'm cleverer than them.... So much for so called Support.

 

Will that ever be fixed by Microsoft or we really have to manually update?

 

This has been known ever since the introduction of the Windows update system. If a certain update does not install try to install it manually. 9 out of 10 times this fixes the issue. I certainly would not wait for MS to fix a specific update problem if I can fix it myself by manually downloading and installing the update in question.

 

Type: troubleshooting in the search > Go to System and Security > Tap Fix problems with Windows Update;
Tick Advanced > Enable and check Apply repairs automatically;
Tap: Run as administrator (you may have to enter your pass-code firstly) > Then click Next to finish the process.

 

Unfortunately, that procedure didn't work on this occasion. Microsoft tech support also tried it, along with clearing the update cache, but without success.

 

Hi, I ran registry update and tried the troubleshooter. The troubleshooter failed at repairing corrupt db. Still stuck at 45%
