Finding INSTALL.WIM after upgrade to Build 10586.3

After upgrading to Build 10586.3, I wanted to save a copy of INSTALL.WIM in case I needed it to make repairs with DISM. I looked in SOURCES\$WINDOWS.~BT but it was not to be found. Looking on the ISO that a downloaded from the "Microsoft Software Download" (option 2 in the Windows.iso tutorial) was futile as well. I discovered that downloading the iso from the Tech Bench Upgrade Program site (option 1 in the Windows.iso tutorial) allowed my to find and copy the INSTALL.WIM file. Maybe everyone already knows this but I sure didn't so I thought this might be a helpful post.

The more I learn the more I realize that there is so much that I don't know. So happy to have this forum and big thanks to all the helpful folks who contribute to it!

    :)

After Build 10586 Update Computers Not Showing Up in Network Folder

I have the same problem with 5 pc after upgrade from build 10240 to 10586.3

As insider I was having this problem on my laptop since build 10565.

Command line: net view gives error 1231.

It seems a lot of people seem to have this problem, but no solution from Microsoft

Finding INSTALL.WIM after upgrade to Build 10586.3

MS uses either an Install.wim or an Install.esd..
the install.esd file is a highly compressed version of the install.wim file

Both are usable with Win10 Dism..

Hi Kyhi. That is interesting because about a month ago I needed to make repairs using DISM and I could not get it to recognize INSTALL.ESD. It gave me a message that the source file could not found. When I found INSTALL.WIM and pointed it to that it work with no problems. I'm wondering why that was? I know that Brink's tutorial on SFC/DISM indicates that ESD or WIM can be used so I'm puzzled what might have happened to me. Any thoughts?

    was it a windows 10 host or a windows 8.1 host ??

You mean my recent upgrade to Build 10586? If so it was WIN10 host.

Update: I think I rediscovered the reason that I had a problem before and why I've been thinking that DISM needed WIM rather then ESD. When I downloaded the Media Tool from the Microsoft Upgrade Site for build 10240 and created a USB, I did not check the box to get an image for this specific PC so the INSTALL.ESD I tried to use contained information for multiple editions of Win10. DISM did not like that. Then when I downloaded the ISO from Tech Bench, I specified the image should be for "This PC." I assumed that the problem was ESD vs WIM but it was actually using a source creating file for multiple vs single editions. Do I have to right?
