Ww have two identical Thinkpad Laptops. Mine is bought in February.It works perfect.When I want to log in to my webmail or MS account or similar, Windows asks me to identify myself before I can pass on with my login credentials. This is a fine extra layer of security.On my wife's identical Thinkpad, that I just finished setting up, bought this week, Windows Hello: Face recognition, Fingerprints and PIN code has been configured.This means both Labtops have same configuration.But on my wife's Laptop, Windows does not prompt for a Fingerprint during the log in process, like described above on m

Hi,

Thank you for your interest in Windows 10.

I suggest you to follow the methods below and check if it fixes the issue.

Method 1: Run Hardware and Devices Troubleshooter

Follow these steps to run Hardware and Devices troubleshooter:

Press Windows key + W and type troubleshooting.

Select Troubleshooting.

Select View all on the top left corner.

Click Hardware and Devices.

Follow the on-screen instruction to run the troubleshooter.

Method 2: Uninstall and reinstall the driver

I suggest you to try uninstall the fingerprint
drivers check if it works for you.

Follow the steps to uninstall the Fingerprint
drivers:

Press Windows Key + X key and click Device Manager.

Right-click on the Fingerprint device listed and click on ‘Uninstall’.

Select the option to Delete driver software.

Restart the computer after its uninstalled.

Try to access the device manufacturer's website and download and install the latest chipset and Fingerprint
drivers.

Method 3

If issue still persists, I suggest you to uninstall and reinstall the Fingerprint
drivers in Compatibility mode and check if it works:

Follow the steps to uninstall the Fingerprint
driver:

Press Windows Key + X key.

Click on Device Manager.

Right-click on the Fingerprint device listed and click on ‘Uninstall’.

Select the option to Delete driver software.

Restart the computer after its uninstalled.

Now download the drivers the manufacturer website and install it in Windows 8.1 compatibility mode. Follow the steps provided below to install the drivers in compatibility mode:

Right-click on the driver setup file and click on ‘properties’.

Click on the ‘compatibility’ tab and check the box "Run this program in compatibility mode for” and select Windows 8.1 operating system from the drop down.

Click on ‘Apply’ and click ‘OK’ and run the file to install it.

Microsoft: Additional steps to help keep personal information secure

We’re committed to helping our users keep their personal information secure and private. A key part of our work is identifying and preventing unauthorized access to your Microsoft Account (including Outlook.com email and OneDrive) by anyone other than you.

We’re taking an additional step today. We will now notify you if we believe your account has been targeted or compromised by an individual or group working on behalf of a nation state.

We already notify users if we believe their accounts have been targeted or compromised by a third party, and we provide guidance on measures users can take to keep their accounts secure. We’re taking this additional step of specifically letting you know if we have evidence that the attacker may be “state-sponsored” because it is likely that the attack could be more sophisticated or more sustained than attacks from cybercriminals and others. These notifications do not mean that Microsoft’s own systems have in any way been compromised.

If you receive one of these notifications it doesn’t necessarily mean that your account has been compromised, but it does mean we have evidence your account has been targeted, and it’s very important you take additional measures to keep your account secure. You should also make sure your computer and other devices don’t not have viruses or malware installed, and that all your software is up to date.

The evidence we collect in any active investigation may be sensitive, so we do not plan on providing detailed or specific information about the attackers or their methods. But when the evidence reasonably suggests the attacker is “state sponsored,” we will say so.

There are some important steps that everyone should take to help keep their Microsoft Account and their online personal information secure including:

Turn on two-step verification: This makes it harder for hackers to access your account even if they guess your password because if they try to sign in on a device Microsoft doesn’t recognize, we’ll ask for an extra security code (which you can get from a special app on your phone, sent to a different email address or via SMS text message).

Use a strong password and change it often: Make sure your password contains a mix of letters, numbers and symbols, isn’t a complete word and is different than the password you use on other sites. Be sure to change your password often.

Watch for suspicious activity on your account: The “Recent Activity” page on your Microsoft Account shows recent sign-ins and changes to your account, and allows you to let Microsoft know if you were not the person making these changes.

Be careful of suspicious emails and websites: Don’t open emails from unfamiliar senders or email attachments that you don’t recognize. Be careful when downloading apps or files from the Internet, and make sure you know the source.

Keep your computer software, including your Web browser, up to date and run an up-to-date anti-virus program: For Windows PCs, you should turn on Windows Update to ensure your PC and Microsoft software stay up to date. You should install a reputable anti-virus/ anti-malware software. Both Windows 8.1 and Windows 10 already include free anti-malware software called Windows Defender.

To address this issue, I recommend starting with the following troubleshooting steps:

Check for Driver Updates: Ensure that your device’s fingerprint scanner driver is up-to-date. You can do this by visiting the official website of your device manufacturer and downloading the latest compatible driver for the fingerprint scanner.

Ensure that the Windows Biometrics Service is Running Properly:

Press Windows + R to open the Run dialog box.

Type services.msc and press Enter.

Locate the Windows Biometric Service, right-click it and select Properties from the context menu.

Switch to the Log On tab. Select the Allow service to interact with desktop option under Local System account.

Click Apply > OK.

In the Services window, double-click Windows Biometric Service.

Change the Startup Type to Automatic. Change the Service Status to Started.

Click Apply > OK. Reboot the system to save the changes.

If these steps don’t resolve your problem, I recommend contacting the manufacturer of your computer’s hardware. The drivers for the fingerprint recognition module are provided directly by the manufacturer, and if the official website isn’t available, you may need to contact their support for targeted help.
