Windows 10: Fingerprint recognition

My Surface Laptop allowed me to set up Fingerprint Recognition. It became increasingly unreliable. And now under Settings, it states that this option is currently unavailable "We couldn't find a fingerprint scanner compatible with Windows Hello Fingerprint." But previously the on-button worked as a scanner. Can anyone advise why this functionality has vanished? Thankyou.

Finger print recognition seems to disappear from my windows 10 computer. I usually go for a few days before I shut down the computer or reboot. But lately, when I go to sign in after being away from my computer, after a couple of days, the computer will
not recognize my finger print (or even acknowledge that I tried to sign in that way), and when I click on sign in options, using a fingerprint is not even listed. Usually, when I reboot my computer, it comes back.

any ideas of what is happening?

Windows Hello fingerprint recognition

My laptop got a fingerprint scanner, but I can't use it to sign in. This is what it says in the settings: "There is no fingerprint scanner that is compatible with the Windows Hello fingerprint recognition." What can I do?
