Windows 10: Fingerprint scanner not detecting finger when trying to setting up windows hello...

Hi, so all of sudden my fingerprint not detecting when I'm signing in. I already checked the device manager and it tells me the device is working properly.Then, I'm searching for the newest driver on Lenovo my laptop is Lenovo thinkbook 14s Yoga, and I have installed it and restarted my device.I went to the settings and tried to register my finger again, but it doesn't detect my finger at all.I also checked out the light indicator beside the power, when it tried to register my finger it changed from white to red lights indicate it's trying to register?this is really sudden, because last ni

To resolve this issue try the following steps:

• 
  Have you updated the driver for the Finger Print scanner? If not, check on the manufacturer’s website (HP).
  
• 
  Check if installing the latest driver of the fingerprint scanner allows you to login using a Microsoft Account?
  

This issue might occur due to driver incompatibility since upgrading to Windows 10.



If you have the raw executable file of the corresponding driver for the validity sensor, I would suggest you to install the downloaded driver file in compatible mode with Windows 7 or 8. Refer to the following steps to do so.

• 
  Right click on the driver, and click on Properties.
  
• 
  Go to the Compatibility tab.
  
• 
  Check the box for Run this program in compatibility mode for:
  
• 
  Select Windows 7 in the list of Operating systems.
  
• 
  Click OK.
  
• 
  Double-click the driver file to install the driver and follow the onscreen instructions.
  
• 
  Reboot your computer.

Hi Jen,

Thanks for the solution. It worked.

I did as you suggested till selecting PROPERTIES and going to Driver Tab. Here my option for Rollback Driver appeared but was greyed out (not an option to choose). Rather I chose the UPDATE DRIVER option.

Then I updated my computer from the Settings - Update & Security - Windows upate.

Then I restarted my laptop and then my finger print worked to login the laptop.

So I don't know if the UPDATE DRIVER worked or I was simply lucky to update Windows and restart the laptop.

I'm Jen, a fellow Microsoft Customer. I'm sorry to hear about your problem with the fingerprint scanner. Let me try to help you.

If the issue only happened after the update, we might be looking at a driver compatibility problem.

Try these steps:

> Right-click the Windows Start icon, then select Device Manager

> Expand Biometric devices

> Right-click your fingerprint driver and select Properties.

> Go to the Driver tab.

> Select 'Rollback driver' if available.

> Restart your computer after it's done and see if it works.

If Windows Hello is still unable to detect the fingerprint scanner, repeat the first 4 steps then select 'Update driver'. Restart the computer after it finished updating.

Please let me know how it goes.
