Windows 10: Fingerprint sensor intermittent failure at startup/sleep/hibernate "something went wrong on...

Hello,I own a Thinkpad X1 yoga 5th gen by Lenovo and when I try and use the fingerprint scanner at windows logon I intermittently get an error logging in, with the message "something went wrong on our end". This happens almost every time at startup/restart/hibernate, almost never when I restart the system. When I get this message I need to take one of the following actions: - restart system > then the fingerprint flawlessy works- go look for the pin option yes it doesn't even prompt itself up and insert pin- weird quickly close the lid and reopen it to get the fingerprint scanner workin

sleep or hibernate

I think you have sleep and hibernate confused... sleep just puts the computer in a low power state, making resuming the session faster... hibernate shuts down the whole computer and basically just saves whats in RAM to the hdd and loads it on next startup. IIRC...

hibernate longer start up but shorter than full reboot and less battery usage
sleep faster startup more battery usage.

You could look in to power options for your self to depending on how you use it to while going peoples houses. Like make sure it turns on\off when lid is open\closed and if that is how it's setup already sleep mode will get you doing what you need sooner.


Only thing i can think of is battery wear and that's going happen anyways.

 

fingerprint sensor

You can use the fingerprint sensor with any program that supports it. For now, as far as I am aware, the fingerprint sensor on a Windows PC is only usable for signing in. I'll be happy to be corrected.

Let's hope that changes. I can use the fingerprint sensor on my Android phone to sign in to several apps.
