Is there any way to know what software Security and Maintenance is referencing when it shows this message?: 'Finish installing device software'

I followed your instructions, and got the same message that oldpaint got: "no changes or updates were necessary". Anything else that we can try?

Same thing happened here.

November update broke something and I tried re-installing the drivers, 3 times.

Then this message kept popping up in the update section.

It's gone now, and so is my hope that this will ever be resolved.

You should able to see in event viewer whether it has detected new hardware recently. It seems but I can't confirm it that there is a bug in current version showing this message (or perhaps not clearing it). http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/w...6-f89a44304c93

Is your issue you can't get rid of the message or you are not sure why it is there?

 

I've seen the message before after doing clean installs of Windows and updating everything. I'm thinking it's related to post-Creative or Logitech driver installations, but not sure. I don't have an issue with getting rid of it, I just would like to know what exactly is being installed when I click the Install button in that maintenance message.

 

Well, I'm not sure what to say really.

The finish stage changed in Vista with UAC. Now if you plug in something (this is a hardware-first installation) or you install something (this is a software-first installation) then depending on what you did the rest of the installation will just sit there. The driver will be installed but perhaps Logitech want to run a program to make it (whatever it is) work better and you must chose some options. A terrible way to do it but if you look above that is how it works.

I'm not aware of how you can identify what queue it is on. Unless you've got a problem I'd accept it and then chose whatever tasks they want you to do as unless you disabled it you are installing a signed driver anyway.

 

Seems like Windows should identify what it will run somewhere.

 

Well it does obviously. I don't know the queue I'm afraid.

The first link I gave indicates how to put something on the Finish-Install queue but I've no idea how the OS deals with it after that.

Hopefully someone more techie can help us out if you can't find it by looking into the event viewer for a new installed device and then scanning the registry for the same installation .exe.
