Firefox black screen enough is enough.

Really can't take this browser anymore. I am not disabling hardware acceleration as then the browser runs so sluggish. Tried the 32 bit version which ran all day yesterday fine then today black screen again. I am finding out that it is a Nvidia card problem and I don't see AMD cards doing this so I went to buy a AMD card but everywhere they are sold out Amazon, Newegg you name all they have are third party sellers jacking up the price to over $500. They are rare like gold well hello AMD make more stinking video cards. Also no way I am going back to Intel graphics which are horrible.

Because of this stupid bug I am forced to use Chrome which I don't like.

Also so you don't have to repeat yourself again I did the useless sfc /scannow always No Inter something it is find also did the DISM fine.

So now it is either Chrome or another browser. Edge is no good it will just crash randomly with no error. Any other browser like Firefox that works? I might try Opera though.

    :)

  2. How to really take control of automatic updates in Windows 10

I am no longer looking for support on this site - I spent the past few days scrolling through numerous pages on this site to try to understand how it functions and I have learned there is little support here and a lot of nonsense - it is like a tech version
of facebook - but I do believe in karma and my dear srfreeman, I do hope that you never have a loved one fall victim to a life threatening disease and find the doctors who may save them require that before they will help you and your loved one, you must obtain
a doctorate in the field of specialty that is threatening to take your loved one - for they refuse to do their job of simplifying the possible cures to a level that a non-doctor can understand and instead require you to come up to their level.

You seem to believe your smug arrogance shows your dedication to Microsoft - reality check, not from a techie but from a specialist in business - the customer will find a solution... through another operating system. It would do you and Microsoft well to
know your customer base - it is not all techie millennials - actually the vast majority are pc users trying to simply do what they need to get done - and they are smarter than you think - they will find the solution through another system if Microsoft does
not want to hear their needs. And history has the data to show that ignoring the needs of your customer is the quickest path to your demise, regardless of your size.

For the others truly looking for support, I wish you well in your search. One lawsuit against Microsoft has been won in Seattle in 2016. There are currently two class action lawsuits I am aware of - one in Florida and one in Illinois. Additionally, several
Attorney Generals are looking into the situation on behalf of the customers in their states.

Simple and stupid truly are relative... did you simply misread the original post. Are you truly saying I have complete control of update and can completely stop them?

    Hi reddice.

The shortage on video cards is being helped along by people trying to mine the new virtual currency "Ether", the full name is Ethereum. Has been quite a stir recently.

If you know this is related to Nvida and it worked okay yesterday could you check your update history and see if you were delivered a new driver.

I would shut off the installation of new drivers in the Nvida app, think it is called GForce Experience and I would also kill the driver updates via Windows updates. Then install a known working driver and use Firefox.

In V1607 I used this process to stop Window driver updates

    Windows + R keys
    Enter Sysdm.cpl
    Click on Hardware tab
    Click on Device Installation Settings
    Click on No
A menu appears (first time) click Never Install driver software.
You may get a warning. Click the option that says I’ll take care of it (not exact words)

I found this article and this is what I'm using in 1703. It must be working as my Wi-Fi card requires an ancient driver and I know there are updates, I get one ever major update.

In the article quite a ways down there is a link labelled “Disable Automatic Driver Updates Hacks”
This downloads a zip file with two registry hacks. Read the paragraph above the link. I used the hack on my V1703 (Creators). Likely have to run Hack after each major update, Anniversary, Creator, XXXX.

You might also check out the Brave browser. I use on my phone and tablets as its has a very specific built in feature.

I am using the latest Nvidia drivers. Finding here https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bu...id=1163440#c70 it is a Nvidia and CU issue.

As for video card shortage I think it is so stupid that even allow bitcoin. Bitcoin is the reason why randsomware is so popular. Why not just shut it down for good? No instead they rather shut down valuable websites.

Just letting you know I have been using Waterfox for weeks no black screen crash. I then tried the new Firefox 55 and after a hour I got a white screen crash yes the only useless update makes it crash to a white screen instead of a black screen. I uninstalled Firefox 55 and I am using Waterfox so it is version 54.0.1. I don't care if it is the latest and I have to wait for Waterfox 55.

  8. Firefox black screen enough is enough.

I use Firefox Developers Edition and really liking it it. I use the settings found in this post: Firefox Fights Back - Firefox 57 - Windows 10 Forums and have my performance maxed out at 7. I also use Nightly but find the Developer's Edition running a bit smoother. I use Startpage for a browser right now. It's ok but just testing it out for now and will probably switch that out.

Okay Waterfox just gave me the black screen. I am done with Firefox. No wonder they are dropping in usage. This bug has been going on since CU and it is still not fixed. Really what is so hard about fixing it.

I will try Firefox again when version 57 comes out.

Hi reddice. I know from past experience that NVIDIA graphic drivers can cause the problem you're having if not properly uninstalled/installed. I don't use NVIDIA any more (different pc) but I overcame the problem you're having when I came across this article when helped enormously. The trick is to first download the required driver to your preferred location and then uninstall the old NVIDIA driver using DDU. Here's where you find all the info. Best of luck.
Display Driver Uninstaller Download version 17.0.7.2

I run DDU everytime I uninstall and reinstall the Nvidia drivers. Does not make a difference. Maybe when the video cards go back to normal prices one day I will change over to a AMD card.

Sticking my head out for the chop but just in case you might have overlooked something. Are you doing the business in Safe Mode as recommended and doing a clean reinstall? This is important. I don't remember all the steps now as it's been a while since I used NVIDIA graphic drivers which are very picky to get going properly. DDU did work for me after following the instruction to the letter. If I recall correctly I had to reboot after uninstalling the old driver in Safe Mode to ensure it was properly uninstalled. Of course you are at the helm and know best but why not give it another try and see how it goes?
