Windows 10: First one with windows 10 anniversary update

Any mention of timezone?

If its out 2nd local time, then that would be great, i would set the download going last thing at night
or i could use NZ time and get it monday afternoon *Wink

 

Travelling all the way to NZ to download an OS - that's dedication *Biggrin (it's more than a time-zone that tells MS where you are, or everyone would do it *Wink )

As far as the regular updates are concerned I think MS may release at the set time 10AM on their local time, US Pacific, they then release to each time zone in order each hour, that would explain how the UK has a patch Wednesday rather than a Patch Tuesday

 

I think some folks on the Release Preview got theirs, as early as last Friday night, here in the US. (29th) For me I won't see it until around Aug 2nd ....after 1pm my time. *Smile

Seen a few mention the Preview Release, but i would have thought more might have done this
or is this the same as the Fast Ring at the moment, i have trouble keeping up with what versions are out there *Sad

 

There used to be two levels or Rings on the Insider system Fast & Slow where the fast got everything released and the slow only got the safer pre checked releases. I could not justify either of these Rings on my main production system.

A short while ago Microsoft added One ring to rule them all a third ring that only gives a slightly earlier access to major releases and tested drivers Etc. it also gives access to the insider reporting structure. This suited me so I went for it,

I think that a lot of insiders stayed with what they had and not many non insiders actually saw the change ( I tend to read all posts on all the DM forums as part of my "Job" so I did see it *Wink

 

They have it already for quite some time*Smile
It's just that, like me*Redface, most people keep it turned off.

It might. if others turn it on too. It will be less stress on Microsoft's servers, and probably speed things up for all.

 

My only concern with it is the potential amount of data it uses, it could be massive

If my PC suddenly starts sending out lots of data then my ISP might get suspicious

or am I just turning into the Tin Foil Hat brigade *Wink

 

There are thousands, if not millions already on the Windows 10 Anniversary Update. I've got 5 computers at my house on the Anniversary update with no glitches. I also have 1 computer the update failed on. It's my 81 year old father-in-law's computer. God only knows what he did to his computer to keep it from updating.

The 5 computers on my house show build 14393.5 on Winver. 2 of those computers have never been on the insider program. They were updated with the 14393.0 ISO file and then pulled the cumulative update to 14393.5 from normal Windows update channel. So what is going to happen to them on August 2? Absolutely nothing, because they, and my 3 insider computers, are already on the Anniversary update.

Neither my mother-in-law nor may daughters whose computers I updated while they were shopping, notice any difference at all and I think that will be the experience of the standard user - until they wonder into settings for some reason and then, "Oh, look, I didn't notice that being that way before."

 

Nope, it's just a choice everyone else needs to make for themselves Paul. Plus some have data caps, or other technical reasons, it's not feasible for them to do it(slow band width), but if you have a lot of installations at home, ie PC's and VM's it might be worth it then, for the local network option, to relieve the bandwidth from downloading to each and every machine.

 

Cliff, have you seen any evidence the option to pull updates from other PC's actually works? I've got the option enabled on all my computers and it seems like every update is pulled directly from the internet.
