First time owning a laptop, is it normal to have so many problems from the start?

I’ve just got my msi katana 15 in, used, and from the start it was going smooth, though since it’s my first laptop that’s not work related, I didn’t know what even windows activation was, so I went online and got a key from vevodigital for $35 and while I waited I tried getting the Xbox app to work, that’s a whole different story, still doesn’t work, probably because I need to activate windows, but I got the home key and it just says it’s wrong and I need to try again or do a different one, Im starting to think these constant random problems aren’t normal and is either bad luck or my ignorance

    laptop doesnt boot automatically

    This is what happened.

    1. Did a repair install and later disabled hibertnate in CMD.
    2. Enabled legacy option ROM in BIOS.
    3. After a few times startup ( i used the system in such mode for 5 days), changed boot option back to default.
    4. Vola!! It boots automatically to win10 without any keypress. Tested it with many starts to confirm the same.
    5. Re-enabled hibernate option using CMD and later selected Fast Startup.
    6. System booted normally, without the need for any keypress.

I do not know exactly whether such steps resolved the problem or what else happened, hence cannot suggest above steps.

Many thanks to all members who helped to troubleshoot problems.

  3. My laptop boots up to a nonresponsive "normal" screen half the time

I have an HP Pavilion with Windows 10. Normal startup has me pressing the power button, Win10 loads, and I get a sign-in screen. I type my password and go to the desktop, all good. Half the time, every other startup, I push the power button, Win10 loads to a different screen and is completely unresponsive. The screen is the "normal" Windows full-screen photo. There is a power indicator in the lower right, and next to it is the network icon only it has an "x" in it. There is no cursor, the keyboard does not work, the mouse does not work, not even ctrl-alt-del works. Nothing works except to hold down the power button until I can feel the unit power down. Then I wait 5 or 10 seconds and push power on again, and the laptop will start normally. I have tried every suggestion I can find on the internet, but nothing is specific to this set of symptoms.

    • Half the time the laptop boots up to a normal sign-in
    • Half the time the laptop boots to a completely unresponsive "normal-looking" page
    • It does not boot up to a black screen or blue screen
    • There does not seem to be a different boot option or second OS
    • No onboard Windows diagnostic has determined any issue
Any suggestions will be appreciated. Thank you in advance.
