      services.msc
      and hit enter.

    • Now locate for Virtual disk and
      Volume Shadow copy

  3. Can't make System Restore Point because I now get Error 0x80042306

Hi Roy. I'm Greg, 10 years awarded Windows MVP, here to help you.

    1) Try these fixes for the System Restore 0X80042306 failure error:

    https://www.howtoedge.com/fix-create-system-res...

    http://windowsbulletin.com/how-to-fix-cannot-cr...

    https://www.techrepublic.com/forums/discussions...

Other fixes that work for System Restore here:

    https://www.makeuseof.com/tag/3-check-system-re...

    https://www.easeus.com/backup-recovery/windows-...

    https://www.remosoftware.com/info/system-restor...

    https://www.majorgeeks.com/content/page/system_...

    https://www.ubackup.com/windows-10/system-resto...

    https://howtofixwindows.com/fix-system-restore-...

    2) Go over Windows using this checklist to make sure the install is set up correctly, optimized for best performance, and any needed repairs get done: http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/wiki...

Start with Step 4 to turn off Startup freeloaders which can conflict and cause issues, then Step 7 to check for infection the most thorough way, then step 10 to check for damaged System Files, and also Step 16 to test a new Local Admin account to replace yours which may be corrupted. Then if necessary continue with the other steps to go over your install most thoroughly.

    3) Update your drivers and BIOS/UEFI firmware from the PC or motherboard maker's Support Downloads web page, using the full model number, Serial Number or Dell Service Tag on sticker. Compare the latest drivers available for download with the ones presently installed in Device Manager reached by right clicking the Start button. Make sure you have the latest BIOS or UEFI firmware, Chipset, Display (Video), Sound, USB3, Bluetooth, Network and all other drivers, or else download and install the latest now.

Updating drivers from the Device Manager or Windows Update is rarely enough. The most basic thing we need to learn to maintain a PC is keep the latest manufacturer's drivers installed from their Support Downloads web page. Everything else depends on this.

    4) If nothing else works then do a Repair Install, by installing Media Creation Tool, open tool and choose to Upgrade Now. This reinstalls Windows while keeping files, programs and most settings in place, is the most stable method to advance to the latest version, and solves most problems. Tutorial here: https://www.tomshardware.com/how-to/fix-windows...

    5) Compare the install you did with this gold standard Clean Install of Windows which will stay that way as long as you stick with the tools and methods given, has zero reported problems, and is better than any amount of money could buy: http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/wiki... Note the driver steps are so important they are printed in red.

The reason I ask you to do this is because no one of millions who have followed the install in that link has ever come back to report problems that I have seen. It is also a great learning experience that will make you permanently the master of your PC because you will learn what works best and have applied it with your own hands.

    6) Once it's fixed since you are conscientious about saving snapshots with System Restore, I would also periodically save a System Image backup stored externally so if Windows ever becomes irreparable you can restore C in 20 minutes and be up and running. Here's the best free imaging app and how to use it: https://www.howtogeek.com/howto/7363/macrium-re...

Feel free to ask back any questions. Based on the results you post back I may have other suggestions if necessary.
