Windows 10: FIX for currently crashing Defender Update

There is currently an update out that seems to cause Defender to crash "randomly".

Looking through the Event-Viewer seems to point at files that have a double-dot for their file-extension. For example: "filename..txt"



As discovered by u/Aydrian74 here: r/Windows 10 Thread .

After checking my Events and renaming the file in quesiton it ran fine and crashed on the next file.

I don't think these files SHOULD have double-points in their name because the file in question for me is the only one from a bunch of files from Adobe.

I just want to have a thread here where people can look for a solution without digging through tons of comments. Hope this is fine.



Again: I am NOT the person that found the solution! I'm just trying to highlight this fix in a streamlined way.

GPU-Z 0.8.7 crash on launch

W1zzard is asking you to test so that he can suggest next steps and be able to troubleshoot the issue you have.
If another version works, it would be one set of steps.
If several other versions also fail/crash, then it would be another.

 

all games crash!

I suggest you run rthdribl > http://www.daionet.gr.jp/~masa/archives/rthdribl_1_2.zip
Increase the window size step by step and watch your vga temps permanently.
What happens?
If it crashes, run at stock speeds as suggested before and retry.

P.S.: When your system locks, does the display signal turn off after a time?
Stuttering sound or no sound at all when freezing?
What X1800XT model do you own exactly?

 

Defender updates no longer shown

I suggest you to follow the steps below:

• Type defender in the search box.
• Click on update.
• Check for the date on which defender is being updated.
• If the recent date is mentioned then it will not show in the Automatic Updates.
• Also click on update definition and check if any update is pending.
