Windows 10: Fixing C: Stage 1

Today a notification on my laptop appeared saying “click here to restart” along with some sort of error message, I clicked as I didn’t want any issues with my pc and the admin prompt appeared asking for the admin password to run “microsoft fsavailux” after running this process my laptop restarted and is now stuck on the booting up screen with the text:Fixing C: Stage 1: 1% 12643 of 1123584; total 0%; ETA: 248:42:28I am especially worried by the large number as it is over 1 Million, is this the number of errors or just files on my laptop?The estimated time is still rising and is n

Fixing (C Stage 1

I updated my computer on Sunday. It restarted after the update but the log in screen would not boot up. It would not turn off so I removed the battery. After removing the battery I got the fixing (C) Stage 1. I let it run for 24 hours the first time but
it was running the cycle fixing c stage 1 and repairing errors. After that I removed the hard drive and attached it a school computer. The school computer wanted to format it but I said no because I didn't want to lose the files. Once I said no it made the
drive inaccessible. I put the drive back in the computer and it went straight to automatic diagnostic pc. I tried skipping the scan but then a get a blue screen that say it wasn't able to boot then it takes me to the repairing disk errors and fixing c stage
1 cycle. I tried turned on and off to get to the Windows Recovery to boot in safe mode but it won't allow me to do that. Is the drive gone? Is there a way for me to get my files? I really just want to get my files off of the drive.

Update: It just moved to stage 2. It is the first time it moved to stage 2. I am going to let it work and then update later to tell you all what happened.

 

Fixing c: stage 1: error

Hi

I have this error in my laptop( 3 years old) from today morning.

Fixing c: stage 1: 64% estimated time 9 hours

The estimated time keeps increasing. The information on online is confusing. Some say to let it run forever others to abort immediately and boot from usb. I have my important data in the hard disk. Which is the best way to save my data?? Please help.

 

Fixing C: in stages

I have a new laptop and as backing up my files to an external drive using Robocopy. It was going on for a long time and I didn't see any progress and was unable to find it in Task Manager, so I finally just shut it down for the night. In the morning when I rebooted, I got the message "Fixing C: Stage 1, .....ETA 20.31..." I left it alone for a while, then rebooted, and the same message came back. This time I left it to do its thing and it finally recovered, much to my relief. I reran Robocopy manually rather than in a .bat file so I could monitor and got everything moved over to my new laptop (whew!)

I've been using both, the old one on off as I get my programs installed on the new one. My question is this: What caused the "Fixing C:...." message? In other threads it was suggested that the hard drive was dying, but I haven't seen evidence of that, EXCEPT now and then a clicking for a moment or two, and then its gone.
