Windows 10: Flash Drive file names have turned into characters.

My flash drive has several files where the names have turned into characters. I tried deleting them and it doesn't work. I tried moving the other files to another flash drive and that doesn't work either. How do I get rid of these character files?

The backslash character \ is known as an escape character in programming, and is used generally in front of the "illegal" characters in order to tell it that the following character is not supposed to be read as code, but as a text character.

While you cannot use the characters in the filename on a FAT32 or NTFS formatted drive, you can name the file something compatible and the escape characters within the code itself.

Viewing the linked page, it looks like a lot of the formatting is not correct. For example:

The "troubleshooter" did not report any anomalies.

As I indicated, the flash drives sometimes appear w/their correct names in File Explorer and
sometimes they are listed w/their generic drive names. ["E:", "G"] The problem is random. [But they ALWAYS have the correct names in Computer Management] This issue did not occur in Win 8. Thanks for trying.
