Windows 10: Flight Simulator launches today! Here are some resources

If your new to the community, welcome.


As you know, Flight Simulator 2020 has/is launching today which means folk can now take to the sky!


This post will walk you though some FAQ we have seen in the community, and will be updated regularly so you can take off without any delays from air traffic control - I mean Microsoft store


I have Xbox Game Pass for PC

Xbox Game Pass players for PC can download the standard edition for the game free, as this is included in the subscription - however you do not own the game.

I have Game Pass, played the game, and want to buy it to own it?

You will need to go to the Edition of the game you are wanting to buy, then click buy to own from the store.


How long will the game be in the Game Pass for?

We do not know. This is up to Xbox, and they will remove it when they are adding a new collection of the game. If you are enjoying it, you may want to buy it to keep from the store. Once you have done this, you will be able to take off where you landed.

How do I install the game?

You need to install the relevant game you have purchased though the Microsoft Store.

Can I download the game to D drive instead of C Drive?

Yes, however this has to be done on the first install. Please read this article for more information on changing where Flight Simulator is stored:

The game is not downloading from the Store, what should I do?

I want to use Mixed Reality and VR headset for this game, can I?

At the moment, this is not possible. VR support is coming this fall, according to the Xbox Wire here:

Microsoft Flight Simulator issue after Windows 10 Upgrade

Hi Rahul,



Thank you for contacting Microsoft Community.



I suggest you to completely uninstall Microsoft Flight Simulator and check.

Refer the steps below to uninstall.

• Press “Windows key + X”, select Control panel.
• Open programs and features.
• In the list of installed programs, select Microsoft Flight Simulator, and then click
  Remove.

Note: If you have earlier versions of Flight Simulator in the list of installed programs, you will have to remove them in addition to Flight Simulator.



Reinstall the Flight Simulator.

Flight Simulator X

Some questions first:

1. Have you entered the Product Key correctly?

2. When you remove your DVD from the drive and launch FSX, does it open correctly and is there a Multiplayer option in the Main Menu?

3. Launch FSX in Free Flight mode and start any flight. Pause the flight and press Alt to get the Menu bar. Click on Help and About MS Flight Simulator. Is there a Product Key listed there at the bottom?

4. When you launch FSX, does the prompt appear for you to activate the product?
