Windows 10: FN Lock in Windows 10

TL;DR: When your FN is locked, and your Laptop does not have BIOS Settings for the Keyboard or there is no small Lock for FN-Lock, try pressing [CTRL]+[ALT]+[FN] to turn off the FN Lock.

I had a Problem with Windows 10 - this happened to me 3 times now, and I never found a solution - even after searching the Internet for multiple Days.

Since I know found an easy Solution, I thought I post this here with a few Infos - so If you had this issue yourself, or just want to mock me for my stupidity, please upvote and share, so other people can find this Post

[THE ISSUE]

Everytime I installed windows (either on my PC or my Laptop) everything works fine for the first few Months. But after a few months Windows kept locking my FN Key.So when I wanted to use F2 to rename a File (for example) I had to hold the FN Key to use that function. EVEN ON MY DESKTOP! The FN Functions on the other hand (screen brightness, volume, etc.) worked without pressing the FN Key.

This always happened a few months after reinstalling WIndows, and I never got it back to normal again. As you can Imagine, I researched the net quite frequently, but found no solution.

[THE SOLUTION]

Most Laptop Manufacturers have settings regarding the FN Key in their Bios, or even a dedicated FN Lock Key (with a small lock on it) - but as my laptop and my desktop PC do not have any of those functions in the BIOS or on the Keyboard I was kinda frustrated.

But today I learned, that pressing [CTRL]+[ALT]+[FN] enables / disables FN Lock (even on Destkop PCs if you have a Keyboard with a FN key, like the Cherry MX-Board 3.0 I own).

I will now go outside and read a book, as I am not worthy using a PC anyways....

Are you sure it's not the num lock rather than FN lock? Sounds like num lock to me.

no exist? it's in all the screenshots.

that is what fn does, num lock turns the number pad on or off yes - but it only matters for a dedicated number pad. those are normally arrows when turned off.

 

FN lock in Windows 10

I'm trying to enable the FN lock in Windows 10 on an ASUS laptop. The FN+caps lock doesn't work. Is there another way that I can lock the FN key?
