Windows 10: folder icons I Customize keep reverting back to default

Discus and support folder icons I Customize keep reverting back to default in Windows 10 Support to solve the problem; Like it says on the title.     I customized icons but after reboot, they keep reverting back to default. For years this was not an issue and all of a sudden it is...

    Changing and locking a custom icon to a folder?

    thanks, well i know how to change a folder icon i just want to know a way i can make it stick permanently so i can more it with out the folder converting back to the default icon.

    Folder customization reverts back.

    I have been changing my folder icons to a specific picture to show what's inside that folder (using an image from within the folder). Following instructions online

    I used customize, then choose 'optimize the folder' for pictures, selecting the picture I wanted,

    Then under the section 'folder icons' choosing 'restore defaults' and OK

    I also tried omitting this last step as it didn't seem to make any difference but either way

    The picture on the folder icon changes to the required one, but then, at some later point,
    returns to the default setting and the picture is gone.

    any ideas?

    Folder customization reverts back.

    Hi Julia,

    Not able to apply the changes made is one of the possible reasons why this issue is happening. We recommend changing the folder icon thru its Properties. Follow the steps below:

    • Right-click the folder you wish to change the icon, then click Properties.
    • Go to the Customize tab.
    • Below Folder icons section, click Change Icon.
    • Select the icon you prefer, then click OK.
    • Click Apply, then OK.
