Windows 10: Folder Option - "Show frequently used folders in Quick access" - has no effect.

    Folder Option - "Show frequently used folders in Quick access" - has no effect.


    This is either something that is just confusing me or it may be a Windows bug.


    The screenshot below is Windows Explorer, "quick access", shell:::{679F85CB-0220-4080-B29B-5540CC05AAB6} when "Frequent folders" is separated. The way I understand it: the "Folder Options" dialog option rundll32.exe shell32.dll,Options_RunDLL 0 should enable and disable the "Frequent folders" group - correct?

    Not only checked or unchecked nothing changes; on one of my Win10 machines the "Quick access" shell layout appears to have a mind of its own. Intermittently during sessions it changes between the two layouts above and I never know what it's going to be when I open explorer.

    The "Reset Folders" button always brings it back temporarily but I still never know what it's going to be when I open the "Quick access" shell.

    • I tried one of the registry edits there to no avail.

    • On all my Win10 machines the "Show frequently used folders in Quick access" check box does not appear to have an effect.
    • The random layout issue occurs on a Win10 machine of mine that is built from upgrades rather than it pre-installed.

    Quick Access is missing "Frequent Folders" and "Recent Files"

    Quick access > right click > Options > Folder Options (Privacy section) > Show recently used files & Show frequently used folders, has no effect till you enable:

    PC Settings > Personalisation > Start > Show recently opened items in Jump Lists on Start or the taskbar (set to ON).
