    Folder Permissions

So I have a file server that has lots of important files and other data, recently I was modifying one of the folder permissions but accidentally removed one of the permission entries. Sadly, I don't remember what was selected in that particular entry, my questions are:

    1. Would performing a System Restore to a time where the entry wasn't deleted be possible? since I forgot what boxes were checked in that particular entry and does it apply to other permission entries that were pre-installed into the windows 10 OS?

2.If i click on or Highlight a particular entry (which is under properties -> security -> Advanced) will the "Change permissions" button (bottom left) change to View, Delete, and modify or would I have to click on it and accept the UAC?

    3. Does double clicking on a permission entry or highlighting it does it still change the Owner of that particular folder, or do it the normal way which is clicking the "Change" button next to the Owner of that folder?

I did perform all the necessary backups from that server to a different one right before I started writing this thread. Your help is greatly appreciated, Thanks in advance!

    :)

  3. No permissions

    Hi,

I would suggest you to right click on the user's folder for your profile and check if the permissions shows as "read only'. If this is the case, it might be causing the issue. In this case, I would suggest you to go to C:\User folder, right click on the
folder with your username and follow these steps:

    • Open the properties of the main user profile folder where the files are located (such as Documents, Pictures, etc).
    • Go to the Security tab and click Advanced.
    • Check the box at the bottom of this window. It is labeled "Replace all child object permissions with inheritable permissions from this object" and then click Ok.
This does a one-time action that replaces the security on all the files/subfolders. It’s one-time, so you won’t find that box checked if you peek at it later. Try these steps and let us know the results for further assistance.

    Folder Permissions

I dont get administrative permissions to a specific folder.

    Hi Nathan,

Problems accessing files may be related to permissions. Permissions are rules associated with files and folders that determine whether you can access them or make changes to them. To check the permission of the file or folder, follow these steps:

    • Right-click the file or folder, and then click Properties.
    • Click the Security tab.
    • Under Group or user names, tap or click your name to see the permissions you have.
To open a file, you need to have read permission. To change permissions on a file or folder, follow these steps:

    • Right-click the file or folder, and then tap or click Properties.
    • Click the Security tab.
    • Under Group or user names, tap or click your name to see the permissions you have.
    • Click Edit, then select the check boxes for the permissions that you need. Tap or click OK.
Let us know how it goes.
