Windows 10: folder template auto detection

Hi,

I would love my windows explorer to always show folders in "list" view pretty simple wish, right?.
Now, I understand that this would be silly for, say the desktop, and there may be other folders that have to be except from the general rule. I further understand that windows already has mechanisms in place that allow to state such rules as well as exceptions, but I seem unable to communicate my wish to the operating system. Here's what I considered:

1. use the clicky interface: Folder Options -> View -> Apply to Folder
This apparently sets the default for a particular folder template. I did this but I still encounter non-list-view folders all the time. I assume it's because new folders may be detected as other templates which do not have list view settings?. A fix would be for me to configure that all new folders are of a specific template and disable the builtin guesswork what folder type a new folder might be.

2. increase the BagMRU in the registry
This seems to make more space for exceptions to the rules, which is not what I want to do. I want to change the rule to say "list view".

Folder Template with shortcut to folder inside folder.

I showed you the principle of a method that will do what you wish. To apply it to any folder structure you need to understand how it works.

• In my shortcut I defined the "Start in" folder as %CD%. This means that the shortcut must use the
  current folder as its base. In my example this was C:\Templates\Template1\TestA.
• For the shortcut I used this command line:
  
  explorer.exe ..\TestB\Target
  
  What exactly does this do? Here is the explanation:
  
  1. "..\" tells Explorer to step on up in the directory tree:
  
  C:\Templates\Template1\TestA -> C:\Templates\Template1
  
  2. "TestB" tells Explorer to steop one down in the directory tree:
  
  C:\Templates\Template1 -> C:\Templates\Template1\TestB
  
  3. "Target" tells Explorer to open the file or folder "Target".

Applying this knowledge, you could create a shortcut that makes Explorer step up two folders:

Explorer.exe ..\..\Template2\TestB\Target

C:\Templates\Template1\TestA

-> C:\Templates\Template1

-> C:\Templates

-> C:\Templates\Template2

-> C:\Templates\Template1\TestB

-> Open "Target"

Armed with this knowledge you can now fix your shortcut yourself.

 

modified settings folder templates forgotten

I modify my folder templates to my liking. During a certain period (for instance some weeks) this modification is remembered. But suddenly only the default templates are active again.
Any suggestion why this happens?

That's what the auto setting will do since you're over the 1333 mark it jumps to the next step which isn't listed or officially supported I assume by that ram.

At this point though I would suggest dropping the multi one step or .5 so that we can get something stable and possibly take the heat issue out of the picture for now.
