Windows 10: Folders keep forcing my icons into a square resolution

I'm replacing my folder icons but every time I do the icons are forced into a square resolution despite it being a different resolution. Here's how the icon is supposed to look like, the icon file is 178.2 x 256 pixelsHere's how the icon appears when I apply it on to the folder. I've also tried changing the resolution into other heights and widths but it all keeps getting skewered into the square shape.

How to make a Uber Hidden Folder

• Make a new folder.
• Change the icon to a blank icon. No icon should appear
• Rename the folder to a blank by pressing "alt + 255." (NOTE: Press 255 on the numpad) No text should appear.
• Your done! It is uber hidden. *Big Grin

 

How to make vista display same icon size for all opened folders in explorer ?

i dont think this answers the question , how do i make all icons in all folders appear "Large Icons" .

Photo Icons in the Picture Folders

Hi,

Misconfigured view settings is on of the usual reasons why it is not displaying the actual photo. We suggest checking the settings of your folder to make sure it show the icons, instead of the thumbnail. Kindly follow the steps below to check it:

• Open Picture folder.
• Choose View tab at the top, then click the (Square icon) Options as shown on the picture below:
  
  
• Click View tab, put a check mark on the box beside the
  Always show icons, never thumbnails. See picture below:
  
  
  
• Close the folder, and check if you will be able to see the display picture for each icon.
