Windows 10: Fonts on my windows looks extremely weird, how do I fix it

Fonts on my windows are fine but when I open settings the characters are halved. It looks weird, I don't know how to fix this.Help me fix this!Should I get a new OS?

Windows 10 Font looking really weird

Please try to run this utility:

System File Checker is a utility in Windows 10 that checks for problems with files on your computer. To run it, follow these steps:

Make sure you've installed the latest updates for Windows 10, and then restart your machine. To find out more, read Update Windows 10.

1. In the search box on the taskbar, type Command Prompt, and right-click or press and hold Command Prompt (Desktop app) from the list of results. Select Run as administrator, and then select Yes.

2. Type DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth (note the space before each "/"), and then press Enter. (Note: This step may take a few minutes to start and up to 30 minutes to complete.)

3. After you see a message that says "The operation completed successfully," type sfc /scannow (note the space between "sfc" and "/") and press Enter.

4. After you see a message that says, "Verification 100% complete," type exit.

If the steps above does not solve the issue please try to restore default font, please see steps below:

1. Go to Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Fonts\Font settings

2. Click the Restore default font settings button.

3. Please check if the default fonts are now back.

I found these steps in this forum from back in 2010:

Step 1:

I would suggest you to try these steps and check whether it helps in fixing your issue.

Open font settings by clicking on start, click on control panel, and then click on appearance and personalization, under fonts click on change font settings. And select the font size.

Step 2:

If you’re trying to change windows font size then please follow the steps below:

To change Windows fonts

1. Open Appearance Settings by clicking the Start button and then clicking Control Panel. In the search box, type window color, and then click Change window colors and
metrics.

2. In the Item list, click the part of Windows that you want to change the font for. For example, if you want to change the menu font, click Menu in the list. Then, make any of the following changes:

· In the Font list, click the font that you want to use.

· In the Size list, click the font size that you want.

· In the Color list, click the font color that you want.

3. Repeat these steps for each item that you want to make changes to, and then click OK.

Fonts extremely small in some applications - Windows 10

Recently, we had a Surface Pro 3 exhibit some weird behavior with menu fonts (all other fonts were okay, only menu fonts). What is even more weird was the thing that "fixed" it.

The symptoms was precisely as follows:

1. System operating fine all the way until Windows 10 1703 Creators Update
   
2. After which, the menu fonts appeared incredibly small
   
3. Whenever the PC was reboot, the first app run, would show normal menu font, then, the subsequent app launched (be it same or different) would yield microscopic menu fonts (I estimate it was half the font size compared to everything else). Even popup font for right click on Windows start was affected.
   

I tried registry hacks to the Windows Metrics as well as setting the Windows DPI to a higher level, but, the weird behavior described in step 3 persisted.

I found a bizarre solution to the problem:

1. Open Control Panel
   
2. Open Region control panel
   
   • If View by: category:
     
     • Click Clock, Language and Region
       
     • Click Region
       
   • If View by: Small icons Large icons
     
     • Click Region
       
3. Select Administrative tab
   
4. Language for non-Unicode programs > Click Change system locale ...
   
5. For me, it was set to English (Australia), change it to another language, say, Chinese (Simplified)
   
6. Reboot
   
7. Note the menu fonts now display normally for all apps
   

As to why we had this font problem and as to why the above fixes it, I have no idea. I was just randomly troubleshooting the problem and accidentally stumbled upon this fix. Just for further troubleshooting, I changed the locale back to English (Australian) and even English (United States), and the problem returned.
