Fonts shortcut has appeared on my desktop...

...and I dont know why. Recently I bought a Canon scanner and installed the software but I didnt notice this shortcut then. I have also deleted Skydrive as Windows quite recently created a Onedrive folder with a copy of all the contents of skydrive in it so I deleted that. But this Fonts shortcut has appeared from no where, any ideas?

    :)

    Window color and appearance

When you right click Desktop, then click Personalize, it opens a window which has a preview pane on the right. The upper right has a box which says 'Sample Text'. It used to be 'Window Text' in earlier versions. How do you change the font color of this
text in Windows 10? Is there a hidden shortcut to get the old Window Color and Appearance menu in Control Panel?

    Creators Update, missing fonts!

So I've done some testing and I've got my fonts to work again. Here's what I've discovered:

CU = Creators Update, Windows 10.

    • Font shortcuts don't work under CU anymore. They may appear after installing as shortcuts and rebooting, but upon next boot, they've disappeared again.

    • The fonts (installed as shortcuts) seem to still 'exist' but they aren't usable. When you install fonts that were already meant to be there, you'll get a warning that there is already that font installed, and a prompt to replace it. Replacing the font works
fine - no error (see above for after replacement).

    • Installing fonts normally (not as shortcuts) seems to work fine. Multiple cold boots and reboots, and those fonts are still there listed in the fonts menu as well as usable in applications again.

    • When installing fonts, they won't actually appear in the fonts menu or applications (instantaneously) until rebooting the system. This was not the case before CU.
Conclusively I've found that the only way to use custom or third party fonts after the CU is to install fully and not as shortcuts. This is less than ideal, as for cleanliness sake I like to keep my Windows fonts on my main drive and font
shortcut installs (third party) on a secondary drive. Also, people who use thousands of fonts would lose the ability to save space having these as shortcuts on a secondary or external drive.

It's ironic that the 'Creators Update' has caused these issues. They might seem minor but really, catering to creatives who are the biggest users of custom fonts, issues like this shouldn't exist. Anyone who doesn't install as font shortcuts probably hasn't
encountered the bug but if you'd like to test and post your findings, that would support the testing here.

I've read a few accounts of this online but nothing as detailed as what I'm posting, so I hope this helps people and brings the issue forward to Microsoft.

Thanks for the assistance Nathaniel - any more pointers would be appreciated, and if you have the ability to do so, forwarding this to the development crew might be pretty beneficial!

    Cheers!
