Windows 10: For File Explorer, how to get UNC pathname of folder in mapped Drive ?

For File Explorer, how to click on Address Bar to get UNC path of folder in Mapped Drive? As-Is, it only shows the path starting with Drive Name.My best workaround is to right click a file in this folder into a Word Document; Is there a shortcut?

UNC vs Mapped Drive

Hi,

The organization I work for use windows services to run our service modules.

While investigating and auditing our configuration, we've found that

we are getting permission issue from using UNC and Mapped drive.

Bottom line is;

UNC has no issue.

However, issue arises if I set up a mapped drive (shared drive) and use it.

Brief detail of the current set up;

1. Two servers(Server A, Server B) , 1 DB server + File server

2. Both server A,B talks to same DB, same File server
3. File server is set up as a shared drive ( mapped drive )

4. All Windows services have domain user (log on as)

Issue:

If I use mapped drive for the main folder, which both server A and B use, I get permission error.

the log shows that the sub folders in the main shared folder can't be accessed somehow.

If I stop using Mapped drive and use UNC, then everything works fine.

I researched about unc vs mapped drive but I couldn't find anything solid.

I'd be much appreciated If you provide some comments regarding above matter.

Mapped Drives Issues

To clarify .... the issue is the Windows 10 OS. It is with Windows File Explorer. The Mapped drives used to appear in File Explorer's left panel list of drives and folders. Two days ago File explorer stopped show the mapped drives. so not they don;t appear in the list of Drives and folders.

I did, it has no effect. I also check the NAS devices they support SMB 2.0. Also I have several other computers on my home network they work fine with the mapped drives and They do not have SMB 1 turned on. So it is something that happened to the computer in question.

 

Map a network drive folder to my video library

To Include folders using Manage Library Tools, we suggest that you perform the steps below:

• In File Explorer, select or open a library (ex: Videos) you want to include a folder or drive to.
• Click on the Library Tools Manage tab, and click on the Manage library button in the ribbon.
• Click on the Add button
• Browse to and select a folder or drive that you want to include in this library, and click on the Include folder button.
• When finished, click/tap on OK.
