For Windows 10, Can I use system image recover work for me to migrate to a new laptop I just bought? Will all the apps/office programs work after I update the driver...etc.

I bought a new laptop with windows 10 home on it. My current laptop is about 4 years old and has windows 10 Pro. Would it work if I create a system image on my current laptop and use system image record Vernon the new laptop?

I would assume I would have to update a lot of the drivers...etc.

Will my office 2013, specifically outlook email work?

I just want to wipe the new laptop and move everything from my old laptop over, along with all the software I have installed. I’m too lazy to reinstall everything and try to customize look-and-feel, shortcuts in those programs.

  2. migrating windows 10 using windows 8.1 retail licence to new system

I am using my retail licence of Windows 8.1 Pro on my Asus laptop which was purchased with DOS. I have even upgraded it to Windows 10 Pro. Now I have purchased another new laptop running on DOS and I want to migrate my licenced windows 10 to new one. I
will format the old laptop and will install fresh Windows 8.1 Pro with licence key. Can I do it and can update the OS to Windows 10 Pro again on new laptop. Please share details of the steps which should I care while performing this exercise.

How do I recover with the my USB system image?

    James,

You have been using the procedure for restoring files backups. You need to use the procedure for image restoration, as given below.

By the way, the change in drive letters is not a problem and needs no action to be taken. Windows only uses consist drive letters for internal drives unless you force it to assign them to others [and it sometimes forgets them after major updates].

    1 Go to

    • Settings,
    • Update & security,
    • Recovery,
    • Under the Advanced startup heading, click on the button for Restart now.

2 This will take you into the onboard Windows recovery environment [WRE], a menu-driven environment -

    • Troubleshoot,
    • Advanced options,
    • System image recover.

3 You will be rebooted into the System image recovery procedure -

    • Log into an Admin account,
    • Connect the drive containing the image,
    • Accept the latest image identified by the system or Select a image,
    • The rest is entirely menu driven.
    • [Whilst there are some options that can be chosen, the defaults are normally off for all these and should be accepted.]

    Best of luck,

    Denis

PS Do please post back to report your success. I understand the steps you took to make an image on the USB memory stick but I have never heard anybody report the results of trying to restore from one later on. There is no logical reason to expect any problems
    at the restore stage.

Restoring Windows 10 Image using Macrium Reflect

In addition to the above. Here's my suggestion in step by step.
I assume you have Macrium Installed in your current HD and already made a backup copy.
    1. Connect your new HD via USB port and boot up.
    2. Run Macrium, click on Restore tab then select the Backup Image that you made to restore
    3. click on "select a different target disk" then select your new HD as destination
