  2. Force nic card to use existing network profile

Hello Jerocol, how are you doing?

    Welcome to the Microsoft community!

I'm glad to be able to assist you at this time.

Handling network profiles in Windows requires careful attention, as improper actions can lead to the creation of new profiles. To ensure your network card uses an existing registry network profile, follow these steps:

    1. Open the Registry Editor by pressing "Windows" + "R" and typing "regedit`.

    -

    2. Navigate to the following registry key:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\NetworkList\Profiles

    -

    3. Identify the registry key corresponding to the network profile you wish to use.

    -

    4. Double-click the "Category" DWORD value and modify it to the profile type you want. For example, to force a network card to use a private profile, change the value to "1".

    -

    5. Click "OK" to save the changes and then exit the Registry Editor.

Following these steps will ensure your network card uses the specified registry network profile.

    --

Here's another approach using PowerShell to force a network card to use a private profile:

    1. Open PowerShell as Administrator and enter the following command:

    Set-NetConnectionProfile -Name "Ethernet" -NetworkCategory Private

    -

    2. Replace "Ethernet" with the name of your network adapter.

By executing this command, your network card will use the private profile.

Keep in mind that forcing a specific registry network profile may lead to issues if the profile is not correctly configured. For instance, forcing a public profile while connected to a private network could restrict your access to certain resources.

I hope this helps you, Jerocol.
