Windows 10: Forcing 5.1 passthrough?

Hi everyone,

It is well documented across the internet's wide array of help forums that you'll generally have a hard time getting surround sound (looking for 5.1 output) if your setup is something along the lines of the following:

PC ---hdmi---> TV ---toslink---> Reciever

Sure enough, I am having trouble. Unfortunately, most the above mentioned forums arrive at something along the lines of "your TV just won't allow it". The thing I find interesting, however, is that the exact same setup with my cable box passes 5.1 audio through the TV without a hitch....so my TV is allowing it under different conditions.

So, has anyone had any luck with this?

For reference; Alienware Alpha Intel Core i5-4590T Win10 Home Edition (10.0.18362) NVIDIA GPU

For all intents and purposes, I am device-number-limited and simply switching the scheme such that the HDMI out of my computer first goes to the reciever is not an option.

That's what the auto setting will do since you're over the 1333 mark it jumps to the next step which isn't listed or officially supported I assume by that ram.

At this point though I would suggest dropping the multi one step or .5 so that we can get something stable and possibly take the heat issue out of the picture for now.

I suggest the following simple steps:

1. Set the autosave options in MS Office to a low value say 5 minutes.
2. Setup file history to autosave frequently - the shortest period is 5 mins
3. Install Macrium Reflect Free and configure it to do a daily incremental system backup

You should be well covered if you do the above to protect your key files.

 

Windows 10 1709 System Restore problems...


That seems to be an attempt at Option 2 in the tutorial, which requires you to
a. Boot to a command prompt (Did you?)
b. You then seem to be mixing steps 3,4 and 5, thus your command is incorrect.

I suggest Option 1 is easier.

If you still have problems, please repost listing each specific step and saying which option from the tutorial you are using. Thanks.
