Windows 10: Forgotten Password

What is the best way to access a laptop computer if we have forgotten the password? We have taken the unit to Memory Express in Calgary. They tried to reset the password and said that Microsoft would email us an access code. That was three weeks ago. The information on it is sensitive, so resetting the unit is out. Any ideas?
