Windows 10: Format C Drive To Save Data

If i format my c drive to keep my files, i know apps will be deleted and microsoft C++ visual will deleted as well. After format C drive, can i reinstall all microsoft c++ visual versions like all redistributable versions and recent windows update? And is my game files still in my external disk like disk D?

Save RAW drive - Don't want data


Open Admin command prompt, then type:

1. diskpart
2. list disk ======> Take note of disk # of the RAW drive
3. select disk # ======> is the number in step 2
4. clean
5. exit

Open Disk Management and initialize it, Create Simple, format.

 

GPT disk conversion for both data drives and C drive


Newbie to the Windows 10 world.

I just purchased a 6 TB drive, plugged it into my Windows 7 computer, and it worked fine for a system backup using Macrium prior to the Windows 10 conversion. Now am converted to Windows 10, and reading that I need the large drives converted to GPT from MBR.

I have found reference to the AOMEI Partition Assistant to make this conversion on the data drive, but the C drive is a different animal.

My understanding is that GPT is necessary for the large data drive, and only necessary for the GPT on the C drive if I migrate to UEFI.

I have two questions:
Is it necessary to have the 6 TB drive formatted in GPT, or does it solve any capacity issues I may have with MBR?
To convert the C drive to GPT, what are the steps I need to take to make this work? Make a Macrium backup and rescue disk, save an image file, reformat C drive, and then reload the image onto C drive, now in GPT format?

Would reloading an image onto a differently formatted C drive actually work? Or am I making this too complicated?

Run CMD


1. diskpart
2. list disk

Then in the 3º step, put the correct number of disk in the list for the usb flash (if it's listed in disk 3, then you'll have to write select disk 3).

2. select disk #
3. clean
4. create partition primary
5. select partition 1
6. active
7. format fs=fat32
8. assign
9. exit

with that commands you will format the flash drive in fat32, if you have a large drive you can select also "format fs=ntfs" in step 7.
